Pokemon Ephemerald v1.1 Walkthrough

by Olivia R.

(note this is a ROM hack, I do not own this and will not distribute this hack, but I am the author of this walkthrough so if you use it credit me). As a reminder, you need a clean Pokemon Emerald ROM (please Google it), a patching utility like Lunar IPS and a GBA Emulator (I used VBA) to play Pokemon Ephemerald (you can also google a pre-patched rom too).

This will be a strict text walkthrough of the rom hack featuring what you need to do to get through the game as well as the trainers and their Pokemon. This will not be as detailed as some of my other walkthroughs since this game is primarily on the regional forms, which I have devised a full Pokedex on, and doesn't actually change the layout or the plot of Hoenn. But it will go through encounters and trainers to battle. Spoilers, as expected.

Navigation Table

LITTLEROOT TOWN [LITT]

Get out of the truck and set the clock. The item in the PC is actually a Rare Candy. Leave and visit Birch's house, meet Brendan/May, leave, then head north to Route 101 to get your starter to help Birch. Starters are the Hoenn starters, but they have the typings of Rock, Flying, and Fighting respectively. You're battling a Grass-type Poochyena here. Back at the lab, rename your starter and set out for Route 101 again.

GLITCH: The Move Deleter here is apparently in the shape of a Dusclops. Also if you talk to the Move Deleter, the Nurse Joy for some reason faces right and I'm not sure why this is. This doesn't affect gameplay though, it's just strange.

DIVE BACKTRACKING [DIVE]

First task doesn't involve Dive yet, just go to the Trick House for the next challenge. Find the guy in the right drawer. Get the Glitter Mail while here.

PKMN Ranger Sophia: Dragonair Lv55, Slowking Lv56, P2688 PKMN Ranger Sebastian: Wobbuffet Lv56, P2688 Bird Keeper Benny: Weezing Lv54, Raichu Lv55, Jumpluff Lv56, P1792

Get the Magnet for your reward. Now for our Dive backtracking, let's start with the Abandoned Ship. Go to the area with five cabins and enter the middle one to the south. Dive in and cross to the next room, surfacing there. Enter Room 3 to pick up a Water Stone and a Rm. 1 Key. Unlock Room 1 and collect TM18 Rain Dance. Find Rm. 4 Key near the left hole, then head to Room 4 to unlock it. The Rm. 6 Key is in the NW trashcan. Enter Room 6 and pick up the Luxury Ball, then go into Room 5 and find the Rm. 2 Key in the middle of the room. Enter Room 2 and you will get the Scanner. Bring this to Capt. Stern at Slateport Harbor to get either a Deepseatooth or a Deepseascale.

Now to Route 124. From Lilycove, find the first diving spot and head south. Head east into the seaweed to find a Rare Candy and continue south. Ignore the light here and head west to a different light, surfacing there.

Sis and Bro Lila&Roy: Corsola Lv40, Swalot Lv41, Banette Lv41, Lanturn Lv42, Forretress Lv41, P984

Go get the Blue Shard and then check out the next diving spot.

GLITCH: Your sprite is discolored here.

Three strange triangles are here. There's also a hidden Green Shard to the south. These triangles contain the three legendary Kanto birds, the Water/Poison Articuno, the Water/Psychic Zapdos, and the Water/Grass Moltres, all at Lv60. Return to the diving spot on the main route that got you here and head SE. Dive here and take the Heart Scale. Go all the way north to get a Rare Candy. Don't surface yet, go all the way west, surface, and get the Red Shard. Return to the surfacing spot that had the Rare Candy and surface there. Head east to find a Yellow Shard and a cave entrance. This is Navel Rock. Go all the way through it to get the Electric/Dragon Lugia and Bug/Psychic Ho-oh, both at Lv70. Head out and take the diving spot to the east, then head to the next surfacing spot. Go south to two more diving spot. Dive in the first one to find a Pearl. Ignore the second spot and head due south to another diving spot, where you can find a Big Pearl. Go to the next one to the SE to find a Heart Scale. Head NW of this one and then to the next surface spot. Head west, dive, west, surface, and you'll get a Green Shard. We'll hold off on Route 126's dive spots until later.

On Route 127, go down the main trench until you see a rock. This has a Heart Scale. Surface and enter the trench to the left of it. At the north end of the trench is a rock with a Star Piece. Leave and enter the trench east of the main trench. The rock here contains a Rare Candy. Head NE to the island with the fishermen and enter the trench to the east. The rock here has a Red Shard. There's also a cave here, leading to a new area.

Mons found: Carvanha: 100%

There's two triangles here, containing Latias and Latios at Lv35. No need for roaming encounters in the postgame. When done here, head back to Route 127 and head to the SE island with the black belt, finding the diving spot there. Dive, surface on the other side, and collect a Rare Candy.

On Route 128, head to the atoll and dive in the middle. The rock contains a Rare Candy. Go all the way east of the main trench and dive there to find a Pearl in the rock.

The next thing to do is only possible if you have a Wailord, a Relicanth, and Pokemon that know Surf, Dig, and Dive. The moves should be easy enough, but for getting the Pokemon, Relicanth is a 1% fishing encounter with the Super Rod on Route 122 (there's another opportunity later on in the Cave of Origin to get it at 4% though) and Wailmer is generally available in a few places such as New Mauville. Go to the routes with currents west of Pacifidlog and ride the currents to the diving spot. Dive in, go to the Braille and surface to enter the Sealed Chamber. Head to the top, use Dig, enter, and place Wailord in front and Relicanth in back in your party to unlock the Regi chambers.

Now let's try to get the Regis, all of which are Lv40 and have a weather-setting ability. Go to Island Cave on Route 105 and circle the perimeter of the room to open the back chamber. You can now get the pure Flying Regice.

Now go to the desert on Route 111 and to the Desert Ruins. Enter, go left two spaces from the inscription, down two spaces, use Rock Smash, and encounter the Fire type Regirock.

Finally the Ancient Tomb on Route 120. Go to the middle and use Flash to encounter the Ground type Registeel.

Time to check out Route 126. At the SE end of the ring is a dark spot with a Big Pearl. At the NE is a dark spot with a Stardust. Head NW from there and through the seaweed to the south to find an Ultra Ball. Head back to the ring and head NW to get a Heart Scale in a dark spot. Surface here as well. Head SW and dive in to find three items: a Pearl, a Yellow Shard, and a Rare Candy. Head back to the ring and go to the isolated diving spot to the SW. Dive in and head to the seaweed, getting the Blue Shard at the end. Now go to the south end of the ring and enter Sootopolis City.

You can go to Mt. Pyre to witness the cutscene of Archie and Maxie returning the orbs. You can revisit Sky Pillar as well, making your way up to the top to get the Rock/Dark Rayquaza at Lv70. Now let's go battle our final gym. The trainers are for some reason on the floor that you have to cross, and no trainers are on the bottom floor.

If you head north to a cave, you'll end up in the Marine Cave where you can find the Flying/Ghost Kyogre at Lv70. Back in Meteor Falls, surf all the way down to get to a PP Up. Now let's head to Route 119, climbing the waterfall there, grabbing the berries, Rare Candy, and Nugget, as well as heading into the cave here. In here is the Terra Cave where you can find the Fire/Ghost Groudon at Lv70.

Before we move on to Ever Grande City, there is one more triangle to find. Return to Petalburg Woods and go to the NE area. You can use Surf and Waterfall to reach the triangle where you can get the Grass/Fighting Mewtwo Lv90!

Done with the main game! Now let's check out the post-game. First thing you'll get is an S.S. Ticket. Say Red or Blue next, and leave to get the National Pokedex (which you already had, but the cutscene just plays out the same). Now you have post-game stuff.

First you can get some fanservice in the Pokemon Trainer Fan Club in Lilycove as well as meet the Game Freak people in Cove Lily Motel (come back here and get the diploma after getting all 386 Pokemon owned in your dex). Fly to Slateport and head north to do the final Trick House challenge. Find the guy in the SW beanbag and also find a Bead Mail in this challenge.

Cooltrainer Keira: Ho-oh Lv70, Lugia Lv70, P3360 Cooltrainer Vincent: Moltres Lv70, Zapdos Lv70, Articuno Lv70, P3360 Cooltrainer Leroy: Mewtwo Lv70, Shedinja Lv70, P3360

Choose between the Red or Blue Tent for your prize. The Trick House is finished! Go west of it to Route 103 and you'll see a cave entrance. This actually leads to the area where you would find the triangles that have Latias and Latios, but if you leave, you'll be underwater on Route 127 (this startled me since I got rid of Dive earlier and had to reteach it to get back up). Also I should mention that when you selected Red or Blue earlier back at home, this means that Latias or Latios can be caught as a roaming encounter, although it's probably easier to get one in the area mentioned in the previous sentence.

Continuing with the postgame, you can enter the Desert Underpass by flying to Fallarbor and visiting the fossil maniac.

Mons found: Ditto: 50% Whismur: 34% Loudred: 16%

Just head to the end to get that fossil that sank earlier at Mirage Tower. That's it here.

The Trainer Hill is open if you're interested. Fly to Mossdeep City and enter Steven's house where you can get a free Beldum. Now let's go board a ship, so enter Slateport or Lilycove Harbor and board the S.S. Tidal.

S.S. TIDAL [TIDA]

It seems that the trainers on this ship were not changed from the original Emerald trainers on the S.S. Tidal, because all of their names are still capitalized. Head to the basement first.

Sailor Phillip: Tentacruel Lv44, Machoke Lv44, P1408 Sailor Leonard: Machop Lv43, Pelipper Lv43, Machoke Lv43, P1376

The NW trashcan has Leftovers. Visit the cabins now, top to bottom, left to right.

Pokefan Colton: Skitty Lv22, Skitty Lv36, Skitty Lv40, Skitty Lv12, Skitty Lv30, Delcatty Lv42, P3360 (all mons have Assist, Charm, Faint Attack, Heal Bell, and all hold an Oran Berry) Lady Naomi: Roselia Lv45 (holds Nugget), P9000 Gentleman Thomas: Zangoose Lv45, P3600

Get TM49 Snatch from the NE cabin. On the south side, the second cabin is yours to rest in. Now check the other three from left to right.

Young Couple Lea&Jed: Luvdisc Lv45, Luvdisc Lv45, P2880 (double battle) Rich Boy Garret: Azumarill Lv45, P9000 Gentleman Micah: Manectric Lv44, Manectric Lv44, P3520

Now you can select the Battle Frontier to go to.

BATTLE FRONTIER [BATT]

You'll get the Frontier Pass at the gate. To be honest, I'm not going to say much here since it's all unchanged from the original Emerald.

Ultra Ball: P800 Hyper Potion: P1000 Max Potion: P2500 Full Restore: P3000 Full Heal: P600 Revive: P1500 Max Repel: P700 Protein: P9800 Calcium: P9800 Iron: P9800 Zinc: P9800 Carbos: P9800 HP Up: P9800

Everything else is the same as before, the exchange corner prizes, the move tutors, the challenges, and even the Skitty/Meowth trade. All unchanged from the original Emerald. Though playing the challenges with different forms of Pokemon is likely to be more fun. Go to the Sudowoodo and awaken it, then head to the Artisan Cave.

ARTISAN CAVE [ARTI]

Mons found:

1st cave: Eevee: 50% Shedinja: 50%

2nd cave: Unown: 40% Spinda: 20% Castform: 20% Deoxys: 20%

A note about these encounters. The first cave can have Pokemon from level 1 all the way to level 100, so watch out (especially since Eevee has Shadow Tag for its ability). The second cave consists of the four unused Pokemon of this game, and all are going to be at level 1 (some like the Unowns have slightly messed-up sprites, just don't use any of these anyways). Head east at the start and to the rocks to the NE before the steps. One has an Iron. Climb the steps and head east again. Get the HP Up, then go north of there and in the middle of the next depression is a rock with a Zinc. Head back west, then all the way north to find two rocks, the right of which has a Calcium. Head back to ground floor and all the way to the NW corner to get a Protein. Now head to the NE ladder to access the second cave. A Carbos is here.

Since it's possible to get all normally Hoenn-native Pokemon at this point, if you did get them all, you can return to Birch's lab to get a Johto starter.

The last trial of the post game is of course Steven, in Meteor Falls. Find him in the secret cave accessible from the location where you got TM23 Iron Tail.

Champion Steven: P39600 (double battle) Nidoqueen Lv97, Crunch, Leaf Blade, Fire Blast, Dragon Claw, holds Sitrus Berry Nidoking Lv97, Double Edge, Fly, Meteor Mash, Sacred Fire, holds Shell Bell Entei Lv98, Will-o-wisp, Doom Desire, Counter, Shadow Ball, holds Metal Coat Raikou Lv98, Toxic, Earthquake, Faint Attack, Cross Chop, holds Soft Sand Suicune Lv98, Belly Drum, Earthquake, Double-edge, Blizzard, holds Salac Berry Jirachi Lv99, Calm Mind, Rest, Dragon Claw, Psychic, holds Chesto Berry

And so as it stands, we are finished with the entire game! Hope you enjoyed playing this using the walkthrough, even though the story is not different, the game still has its charms with the new regional forms and more interesting trainers to battle. Let me know if there are any suggestions to this guide as of right now, I think I have everything covered.

POKEDEX BY LOCATION

I have listed evolution methods, movesets, types, gender ratios, abilities, and held items in my other document. There also exists this complex spreadsheet by the author of the hack which has the full documentation on things, with the exception of gender ratios and held items which mine does cover. This lists locations for the Pokemon in dex order. The ones with triangle and legendary listed are one-time legendaries/mythicals when you encounter them, but you can reset them by talking to Ellie in the Pokemon League.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What is the purpose of the Frontier Brains?

A: IV/EV training to be specific. You don't get vitamins by buying them or so, these are the ones you have to battle in order to get them and they send the reward to the PC. They are of course challenging opponents as to be expected. Also for reference here are their locations:

Spenser: Petalburg Woods (requires Cut) Greta: Cycling Road Lucy: Jagged Pass Brandon: Desert on Route 111 Tucker: Scorched Slab Noland: Shoal Cave Anabel: Pacifidlog Town

There's also Joseph and Ellie at the Pokemon League as well. The Artisan Cave has a few of the vitamins as well, and you can buy them at the Battle Frontier PokeMart for P9800.

Q: Are base stats changed for the new regional forms?

A: Generally speaking, no. Some particular Pokemon do have their Attack and Special Attack stats swapped however, but that's the only change.

Q: Is the story the same as in regular Pokemon Emerald?

A: Yes, there's no real changes to the actual story.
