To play Pokemon Dark Crystal you need a clean Pokemon Emerald ROM (please Google it), a patching utility like Lunar IPS, and a GBA Emulator (I used VBA). You can also Google a pre-patched ROM.

I will list things that need to be listed, although for catching mons, due to there being ones past 386, there will not be an encounter percentage. Note that since this is an unfinished beta, this walkthrough covers everything up to that point, which is in a cave after you get the first badge, but before the second badge.

Notable Things in This Hack

  • 721 Pokémon as of Generation VI are added in the game with their respective forms and Mega Evolutions (note: mega evolutions do not show up as of this beta yet).
  • New Moves: As of Gen-6, some existing moves also updated
  • New Abilities: As of Gen-6, some existing abilities also updated but some abilities in the beta are currently glitched and don't function properly
  • Fairy Type
  • Physical/Special/Status Split
  • New Repel System (note: not actually implemented in this beta yet)
  • Poison Survival Style, no fainting while walking
  • Infinite TM usage
  • Capture-Experience Gain System
  • New and rearranged music
  • Missions: via the mission boards in towns (only one town has missions so far)

Table of Contents

Use CTRL-F and the four-character code in square brackets to jump to a section.

Go through the beginning, where you're introduced by a professor named Olivia Acacia, who's also a historian in the region of Hairo. Set up your character and you'll be revealed as coming from Sketchy Town, having once approached the professor on being a Pokemon Trainer. Prof. Acacia will be revisiting your town it seems. After the intro stuff, some dialogue is being shown, which hints at sinister intentions. But who's talking? You'll also see a silhouette of a legendary Pokemon, allegedly being caught, but also being unleashed. This is something your character is dreaming about.

SKETCHY TOWN [SKET] - A beginning of artistic dreams

The news suddenly pops up, signaling Prof. Acacia's arrival. She's being interviewed and also mentions three people from Sketchy Town. You're one of those three. For more references, the TV now plays Attack on Titan and the Wii has Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The PC has 3 Oran Berries, and there's a 3DS with Pokemon OR/AS there. You can of course set the clock and should. Downstairs, mom lets you know that Prof. Acacia is here and wants you and the other two to help her with errands. The other two are Robert and Yumi. When you have control, the TV has a reference to Cooking Master Chef Grool.

When you leave the house, Robert shows up, followed by Yumi. They're enthusiastic and are going to be going to the west. Well, what about the rest of town? Yumi's house is east of the Smeargle statue, and she has Pokemon Battle Revolution on her Wii and Akame ga Kill on her TV. Her laptop is on but logged off, plus she has Pokemon Y and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance on her 3DS. Robert's home is to the north of that, he also has Pokemon Battle Revolution on his Wii, but his TV is off and he's got Blu-ray discs all over the floor, doing some movie marathons or something. His laptop has Deviantart on it and he's got Facebook open too. Robert recently played Pokemon X on his 3DS. The ways north and east out of town are off-limits due to the Smeargle in the way.

Now head to the NW building which is the schoolhouse to see Prof. Acacia. Robert and Yumi are really happy to see this celebrity. It's time for formalities, and afterwards, three Pokemon are put on the table. These are the Hoenn starters. Once you pick yours, Robert picks the starter with the type advantage, and Yumi picks the last one with a type disadvantage. Prof. Acacia has business in Campville Town, where her lab is. Robert is itching for a battle, but will wait outside for you. Yumi also agrees. If you check your new starter, it already has an Oran Berry.

Leave and get ready for battle. Robert's first.

PKMN Trainer Robert: (opposing starter) Lv5 — P300

Then you battle Yumi.

PKMN Trainer Yumi: (opposing starter) Lv5 — P300

(As a reminder: Robert has the type advantage to yours and Yumi has the type disadvantage.)

Afterwards, everyone heads home. Mom then gives you the Running Shoes, Town Map, and Watch. She then remembers a strange girl had come to tell you to visit Eastshore Beach. The path north is still blocked, so you must head east. The Watch by the way is a portable clock, and the Town Map is useless since this is a beta and the full map isn't done yet.

EASTSHORE BEACH [EASB]

There's a Heart Scale at the SE rock on the beach. Head north on the beach to see a mysterious girl. She'll say her name, Felicia, then erroneously think about the Poke Balls on your waist, when you technically don't have Poke Balls yet and you only have one Pokemon with you. And immediately wants to battle!

PKMN Trainer Felicia: Ralts Lv5 — P300

She's happy about Pokemon and bonds and stuff and flies off. Nothing left to do, so head back to town. Robert and Yumi will be there, having searched your house and wondered where you went. Well, after that stuff, they go towards Campville Town. Now the route to the north is open.

FLOWERY ROAD [FLOW]

Mons found: Lillipup, Poochyena, Zigzagoon, Smeargle, Starly, Budew

After the first set of tall grass, talk to the mart clerk on the road to get a Potion. Head up and check out the tree to get three Oran Berries. You can get another berry by visiting the nearby flower house.

CAMPVILLE TOWN [CAMP]

First, you can't head west yet until you visit Acacia's lab. The PokeCenter has the PokeMart integrated into it.

Top clerk wares:

Item Price
Potion P300
Antidote P100

Bottom clerk wares:

Item Price
Orange Mail P50
Wood Mail P50

The Trainer's School is next to the PokeCenter. You can battle the two students at the NE end.

School Kid Russel: Starly Lv4 — P80 and TM21 Frustration School Kid Lorraine: Lillipup Lv4 — P80 and TM27 Return

The place at the NW end is the Sky Brigade Mission House, Campville Town Branch. There's a vending machine to the NW.

Item Price
Fresh Water P200
Soda Pop P300
Lemonade P350

This place has what are known as missions. But they're not ready yet. Come back later. You can't go north, so there's only one place left, Acacia's lab. Talk to her. She'll take you inside where Robert and Yumi are as well. You'll then be given Pokedexes and then ten Poke Balls. Before you go anywhere else, check out the mart wares. The bottom clerk now sells Luxury Balls for P1000, and the top clerk now sells Poke Balls for P200.

Head west and a girl runs to you. She's being chased by a very evil-looking group of people. They are from Team Enigma, and they want to take over the Hairo region.

Team Enigma Grunt: Poochyena Lv4, Poochyena Lv4 — P80

Despite there being four other grunts behind the one you battle, they all run off, swearing revenge. The girl's name is Cherry and she is a member of the Flower House on Flowery Road. She was on her delivery route when she was attacked. You then get a Sitrus Berry for helping. She hopes you'll visit her, and then when she leaves, another dude, who was at the mission house earlier, shows up. His name is Kent. We're immediately going to battle.

PKMN Trainer Kent: Riolu Lv6 — P360

Knowing how strong you are, he'll be happy to know someone else is good enough to battle Team Enigma. He'll still be at the mission house, offering some advice or something like that. No, you can't do any missions yet. Cherry will be at the Flower House, but that's about all there is to here. Head west from Campville Town now.

MT. ASCENT FOOT [ASFO]

Mons found: Poochyena, Zigzagoon, Starly, Lillipup, Shinx, Drilbur

This tree has three Leppa Berries. The cable car is to the north, but a blackout has ruined its electronics and it's not available. Plus some random youngsters are battling here, so you have to take the long way.

Lass Anna: Budew Lv5, Lillipup Lv5 — P80

Pick up a Potion on the way.

Youngster Alvin: Starly Lv5, Shinx Lv5 — P80 Youngster Barry: Poochyena Lv5, Zigzagoon Lv5 — P80

MT. ASCENT CAVE [ASCA]

Mons found: Zubat, Geodude, Onix, Drilbur

Camper Calvin: Zubat Lv6, Poochyena Lv6 — P96 Hiker Theodore: Drilbur Lv7 — P280

An Escape Rope is here.

Picnicker Danica: Shinx Lv7 — P112

Take the ladder and when you attempt to leave, Yumi arrives.

PKMN Trainer Yumi: Lillipup Lv9, (opposing starter) Lv11 — P660

After that, exit and you're immediately at Mountburg City.

MOUNTBURG CITY [MOUN] - Everybody aims to be on top!

There's actually not a whole lot to do here. Several homes here are recycled from Rustboro City, including the Seedot/Ralts trade guy. The cable car is still broken. Head west of the PokeCenter and talk to a girl to get a Quick Claw.

Mart wares:

Item Price
Poke Ball P200
Potion P300
Antidote P100
Luxury Ball P1000
X Attack P500
X Defend P550
Wood Mail P50
Orange Mail P50

There's a house belonging to a Lenore NW of the PokeCenter, but no one's home. You'll find out that the gym leader is Mark, but sadly the gym is closed. You're told to go train at Mountburg Shrine. The Mountburg library is the NW building. Not much to do, let's go to the Mountburg Shrine to the north.

MOUNTBURG SHRINE [MOUS]

Mons found: Poochyena, Zigzagoon, Wurmple, Silcoon, Cascoon, Murkrow, Scatterbug, Spewpa, Shinx, Buneary

The Sage's house is to the east. The eldest sage is here but the others are training up ahead. Head west now.

Bug Catcher Rick: Scatterbug Lv8, Spewpa Lv8 — P128 Bug Catcher Simon: Wurmple Lv7, Scatterbug Lv7, Silcoon Lv7 — P112

Pick up a Poke Ball here. Go all the way east to pick up a Parlyz Heal.

Bug Catcher Timothy: Scatterbug Lv7, Wurmple Lv7, Cascoon Lv7 — P112

Going NE leads to some trees requiring Cut. Head west instead, looking out for a sneaky trainer.

Lass Elanor: Ralts Lv10 — P160 Youngster Fedrick: Zubat Lv8, Shinx Lv8 — P128

Pick up an Antidote to the left and keep heading up.

School Kid Gabrielle: Zigzagoon Lv8, Lillipup Lv8 — P160 School Kid Heinrich: Smeargle Lv10 (knows Vine Whip, Ember, Water Gun, and Thundershock) — P200

Pick up a Super Potion hidden in the next rock and make your way to the shrine itself! There you'll find Robert, as well as two blocked paths. Time to battle Robert again.

PKMN Trainer Robert: Starly Lv11, Shinx Lv11, (opposing starter) Lv13 — P780

You then look at the statue of Rayquaza. Rayquaza seems to require a Jade Orb to be summoned. Robert also reasons that because of time spent here, the gym may be open for business. Let's see if that's true! Yep, the gym seems to be open. The guy who greets you at the start is Clyde, he gives you a Fresh Water and lets you know that this gym specializes in Normal type Pokemon. The gym is like Rustboro's gym, there are alternate paths that let you skip the trainers.

Youngster Marco: Zigzagoon Lv12, Starly Lv12 — P192 Lass Sasha: Lillipup Lv12, Buneary Lv12 — P192 School Kid Benjamin: Slakoth Lv13 — P260

Gym Leader Mark: Lillipup Lv14, Slakoth Lv14, Lopunny Lv16 — P1600, Assist Badge, and TM32 Double Team

All of a sudden, Team Enigma attacks. They seem to want to bomb the Mountburg Library! Mark asks for your help. Enigma grunts are around, and most places are locked. The only way to go is into the library, where Mark confronts the grunts while the bomb is placed. Yes, there's even civilians around. You have to contend with two grunts while Mark deals with the other two.

Team Enigma Grunt: Poochyena Lv13, Zubat Lv13 — P260 Team Enigma Grunt: Murkrow Lv14 — P280

Four grunts defeated, but it was just a diversion. It seems that they have planned to bomb a different place instead. Mark thinks it may be the shrine that they're after. We've gotta go there pronto. Leave and head that way to see grunts being chased, by Robert. You can go straight to the shrine without the ledges in the way this time. At the shrine, you'll catch up with Robert, where two grunts have their bomb in front of the Rayquaza statue. You take on one grunt while he goes after the other.

Team Enigma Grunt: Machop Lv14 — P280

Seems this bomb plan has been taken care of too. The grunts flee, Robert talks to you, then Mark appears. He then says you should join the mission board now. Robert's eager to join, and wants you and Yumi to join too. Fortfall City is the place where the next badge is, and that's also where he's going.

By the way, because you now have one badge, the top mart clerk wares will be this:

Item Price
Poke Ball P200
Great Ball P600
Potion P300
Super Potion P700
Antidote P100
Parlyz Heal P200
Awakening P250
Burn Heal P250
Ice Heal P250
Escape Rope P550
Repel P350

One new thing to do now is to go to the Mountburg library. Talk to the boy at the east end to get into a series of five battles without healing.

School Kid Craig: Starly Lv12, Zubat Lv12 — P240 School Kid Dylan: Drilbur Lv13 — P260 School Kid Angelica: Budew Lv12, Azurill Lv12 — P240 School Kid Vivi: Ralts Lv13 — P260 Gentleman Stilton: Zigzagoon Lv13, Smeargle Lv14 — P1120 and HM01 Cut

With Cut, you can go back to the path to the shrine and cut those trees to get TM19 Roost. The cable car is now working too, so you don't have to go through the cave again. At Mt. Ascent Foot, cut a tree to find a Timer Ball in a rock. Return to Campville Town and a guy mentions the mission branch is open. Go there to find Kent again, who wants to meet at Crystallus Grotto later on. Now talk to the receptionist and get your Brigade Card to be a member of Sky Brigade. Missions are given by requestors, and are on the bulletin to the east.

Mission 1: Mischievous Smeargles

There's a group of mischief Smeargles around Sketchy and Campville! Calm them down before they cause serious trouble! — Edison (Sketchy Town)

From what I can tell, you actually have to go back to Sketchy Town and talk to Edison to start this mission. He is more specific this time. There's five Smeargles scattered around in either the towns or the routes near both towns. You have to encounter them to beat them.

  1. The first one is right in front of your house (not Mom's Smeargle).
  2. Head to Eastshore Beach to find another one.
  3. Next one is on Flowery Road, right at the shop entrance.
  4. In Campville Town, a Smeargle is between two houses.
  5. The last one is at Mt. Ascent Foot near the cable car.

Head back to Edison and get your reward, an Amulet Coin. You can also redo this mission to get different rewards, such as vitamins.

Mission 2: Berry Pots Delivery

I need help on delivering these Berry Pots to each people of Mountburg City who ordered some. — Cherry (Flowery Road)

Go to the shop and talk to Cherry who wants to deliver Berry Pots to Mountburg City residents. Five of them to be exact. She thinks they are pink-dressed people that you need to deliver them to. Thankfully, Mountburg can now be accessed via cable car, so that helps.

  1. The first one is in the building west of the cable car (I don't think he was there before).
  2. Next one is a woman in the building just north of the previous one.
  3. The building west of that one, which didn't have people in it before, will have the third person.
  4. You'll find the next one in the house east of Lenore's house.
  5. And then the final one is in the house next to that.

You'll get a Sitrus Berry once you talk to Cherry. You can get other berries if you redo this mission. When you're ready, the next place to head to is north of Campville Town. Though in the middle of the gatehouse, Felicia appears. She says you shouldn't face Team Enigma.

PKMN Trainer Felicia: Espurr Lv14, Kirlia Lv16 — P960

CAMPVILLE VALLEY [CAMV]

Mons found: Lillipup, Hoppip, Aron, Machop, Marill, Starly, Shinx, Budew, Drilbur

The ledges may seem difficult but you basically are going in a zigzag pattern and can still backtrack.

Lass Ivy: Hoppip Lv13, Zigzagoon Lv13 — P208 Ninja Boy Jaiko: Zubat Lv13, Drilbur Lv13 — P156 Youngster Kelvin: Shinx Lv14 — P224 Bug Catcher Lemuel: Beautifly Lv12, Dustox Lv12 — P192

Pick up Pecha Berries and a Poke Ball and continue on the path.

Twins Mia&Nea: Budew Lv14, Azurill Lv14 — P336 (double battle) Camper Patrick: Poochyena Lv14 — P224 Picnicker Olive: Zigzagoon Lv14 — P224

We're taking the bridge first. Pick up some Cheri Berries while here.

Lass Quivelyn: Azurill Lv13, Marill Lv13 — P192 Lass Regine: Budew Lv13, Roselia Lv13 — P208 Fisherman Sampson: Magikarp Lv15 — P600 Youngster Tim: Starly Lv12, Lillipup Lv12, Shinx Lv12 — P192 Fisherman Undren: Magikarp Lv12, Magikarp Lv12, Magikarp Lv12 — P480

Off the bridge, talk to a guy to get a Great Ball, then let's check the grass to the west real quick.

Bug Catcher Venjin: Scatterbug Lv12, Spewpa Lv12, Vivillon Lv12 — P192

Get the Protein here and keep heading north. Some Chesto Berries are to the east, along with a Dire Hit. The house here is a rest stop that for some reason has a Clefairy imitating Peeko from Mr. Briney's house.

Black Belt Walter: Machop Lv14 — P448 Hiker Xander: Geodude Lv13, Onix Lv13 — P520

Kent is at the entrance of Crystallus Grotto. He's seen some Enigma grunts this way, and will head inside. Let's go too.

CRYSTALLUS GROTTO [CRYG]

Mons found: Geodude, Zubat, Onix, Aron, Makuhita, Machop, Mawile, Drilbur, Carbink

Two ways to go. Left first.

Youngster Christopher: Poochyena Lv14, Zigzagoon Lv14, Murkrow Lv14 — P224

Pick up an Escape Rope here and take the ladder. Check the first crystal before the hiker to get a Revive.

Hiker Dave: Geodude Lv14, Geodude Lv14, Geodude Lv14 — P560

The item here is a Great Ball. You won't be able to smash the rocks, so just head back and head east now.

Youngster Jude: Shinx Lv15, Aron Lv15 — P240 Camper Paul: Lillipup Lv15, Slakoth Lv15 — P192 Picnicker Nadine: Hoppip Lv15, Buneary Lv15 — P240

Pick up a Super Potion and head down the ladder. Move through the path and when you see a dead end to the left, go there, inspect the crystal, and you'll get an Everstone.

Hiker Toby: Drilbur Lv16, Onix Lv16 — P640

This path ends with TM39 Rock Tomb. Back to the previous area and heading north now. Go to a small path to the east when you can and pick up a Hard Stone from a crystal.

Ninja Boy Genshin: Zubat Lv14, Drilbur Lv14, Machop Lv14 — P168

Lass Alisha: Mawile Lv16 — P256

Pick up a Repel and continue west. You'll have to battle both of the next two trainers together.

Black Belt Demetrius: Makuhita Lv16 — double battle with below Black Belt Matthew: Machop Lv16 — P1024

Hiker Gian: Nosepass Lv17 — P680

Take the steps up and head behind the crystals to find a Nugget in the NW crystal. The grunts here signal the end of Beta 1.0 for this hack. Well, we are officially done with this hack until the next release. This walkthrough will be updated whenever the beta gets updated, so look forward to that when it happens.
