Item Locations Guide

Introduction

This document lists the earliest location for most useful items in the game. It's not a definitive list of every single item location — you don't need to know there's a free Sun Stone in Mossdeep if you can buy them in Mauville.

A few important notes:

  • TMs are reusable, so each one can only be obtained once.
  • Mega Stones are one of a kind and have their own bag pocket.
  • Competitive items like Choice Specs and Life Orb are one of a kind, but more can be obtained at the Battle Frontier once it's finished.
  • Evolution items can all be bought in a mart somewhere. If a mart is the only source, that's noted below.
  • Wild held items are not listed here unless they're the only way to obtain a certain item. Check the base stats file for wild held items — names use underscores instead of spaces (e.g. KINGS_ROCK). The suffix .item1 means 50% hold rate, .item2 means 5%.

The mart system has been overhauled compared to the base game:

  • Poké Balls, healing items and repels are sold in Pokémon Centers
  • Consumable held items and evolution items are sold in Poké Marts
  • Both Marts and Centers unlock new items as you progress through the game
  • Some locations have a second clerk selling extra items

Bottle Caps are used to change your Pokémon's IVs. You'll need 30–36 caps to perfect a team of six, so here's every source.

  • Aqua Hideout B1F and B2F — hidden in trashcans
  • Dewford Manor — hidden in a trashcan
  • Fortree City — reward for beating Spencer (3 caps)
  • Lavaridge Town — reward for beating Lucy (3 caps)
  • Mossdeep City — hidden on a rock on the beach north of the city
  • Mt. Chimney — hidden in the trashcan in the cable car station
  • Route 109 — hidden on the beach chairs (2 caps)
  • Route 110 — hidden in a clear patch in the grass
  • Weather Institute — reward for beating Shelly (4 caps)
  • Rustboro City — hidden in the fountain
  • Slateport City — reward for beating Greta (6 caps)

Repeatable Locations

  • Mauville City — hidden in the Game Corner trashcans (2 caps, respawn daily)
  • Route 124 — trade colored shards at the treasure hunter's house (1 shard = 1 cap; shards are commonly held by Pokémon found while diving, except Relicanth)
  • Lottery Corner — possible reward
  • Every Battle Tent — 3 caps per clear
  • Pickup ability — see the Pickup section of this document
  • Rock Smash — very rare chance from breakable rocks (don't farm this, but a nice bonus if it happens)
