About This ROM Hack

Pokémon FireRed 386 is a vanilla-faithful completion hack designed to let players encounter and obtain all 386 Pokémon from Generations 1–3 in a single-player experience, without trading, events, or connectivity to other games.

This project is intentionally conservative in scope. It does not rebalance difficulty, add modern mechanics, change lore, introduce post–Gen 3 Pokémon or evolutions, or “fix” perceived balance issues from the original FireRed release. Instead, it preserves the classic FireRed experience while carefully expanding Pokémon availability and access to key resources so the Pokédex can be completed solo.

This is not a modernized FireRed—it is the original FireRed, finally completable by one player on one save file.

Story Overview

The main story of Pokémon FireRed is fully intact. You journey across Kanto, challenge Gym Leaders, dismantle Team Rocket, explore the Sevii Islands, and take on the Pokémon League exactly as intended in the original game.

What changes is what becomes possible along the way. Version exclusives, trade evolutions, fossils, legendary Pokémon, and event-only encounters are reintroduced through restored tickets, new NPCs, and carefully placed in-world events. These additions are deliberately hinted at through Pokédex data and NPC dialogue so players can discover content naturally without relying on external guides.

Key Features

Complete Gen 3 Pokédex: All 386 Pokémon can be captured in a single save file without trading or external events.

Restored Event Content: Original special-event tickets and maps are fully reimplemented.

Legendary Pokémon Integration: Gen 2 and Gen 3 legendaries receive proper in-game events, with full despawn safety (including Snorlax and other statics).

Trade Evolution Helper: A dedicated NPC allows trade evolutions while keeping your original Pokémon.

Expanded Fossil Regenerator: All fossil Pokémon are supported, not just the vanilla set.

Unlimited Access to Core Tools:

  • All TMs become repurchasable
  • One-time Move Tutors can be reset
  • Evolution items are repeatedly obtainable

Title Screen Customization: Players can switch between FireRed-style and LeafGreen-style title screens.

Deoxys Improvements: Deoxys’ learnset includes all version-exclusive moves from Emerald, Ruby, and Sapphire.

Pokédex-Friendly Design: NPC teams and events help trigger “seen” flags for newly added Pokémon, guiding exploration.

Integrated Guidance: New NPCs hint at trades, locations, and added content—no blind guessing required.

Version Transparency: Patch version can be checked at the title screen or in-game via the Help System.

Bonus Content:

  • Alternate method to obtain the final Trainer Card star
  • Custom FireRed and LeafGreen box art
  • Full Pokémon Location Guide included in the download

Known Bugs & Issues

  • No major bugs are currently documented.
  • Version 1.4 fixes a non-critical issue involving the three vanilla Cinnabar Island trades.
  • Older FireRed 386 save files are compatible with newer updates, but vanilla FireRed save files should not be used.
