About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Cinder Fall is a FireRed-based ROM hack that emphasizes exploration, challenge, and full Pokémon availability. It combines Gen I–III Pokémon, competitive-style Gym Battles, and semi-hide-and-seek mechanics for Legendary Pokémon.

The hack rebalances weaker Pokémon, implements modern battle mechanics like Physical/Special split, and increases the difficulty with expanded trainer rosters, static encounters, and clever environmental puzzles.

Story Overview

While the main FireRed storyline is largely preserved, the player explores three new islands in addition to the original Kanto map, Navel Rock, and Birth Island. Routes are redesigned for exploration challenges, including a Dive Route and a sandstorm-restricted area accessible only with Go-Goggles.

Legendaries are hidden throughout the world in hard-to-reach places, encouraging exploration and problem-solving.

Key Features

  • Complete Gen I–III Pokémon: All Pokémon from these generations are obtainable.
  • New Islands & Routes: Three new islands, a Dive Route, and a Sandstorm-only Route add exploration variety.
  • Competitive Gym Battles: Each Gym Leader and major boss uses a full team of 6 Pokémon.
  • Physical/Special Split: Moves now follow the modern split mechanic for better battle depth.
  • Increased Shiny Odds: Players have a better chance of encountering Shiny Pokémon.
  • Wild Encounters & Trainers Updated: More varied and challenging encounters, including 25+ static Pokémon.
  • New Puzzles & Environmental Challenges: Adds strategy and exploration beyond standard routes.
  • Shiny Sprites & Battle Enhancements: Many Pokémon have updated Shiny appearances.
  • New Moves, Abilities & Stats: Some Pokémon have improved viability in battle, especially previously weaker species.
  • Legendary Placement: Hidden, hard-to-reach Legendary Pokémon inspired by hide-and-seek mechanics.

Known Bugs & Issues

  • When starting the game, you may get the fourth badge on your trainer card. Gameplay is unaffected.
  • While catching Jirachi, it will sometimes trap you while surfing. If this happens, you are on an outdated patch of the game. Fix it by using the newest patch and transferring your save data to the new patch.
  • In Pallet Town, you can enter the southern grass before picking up your starter, and get a ?? Pokemon encounter. Do it if you want; gameplay is unaffected.
  • You must select Strength from the Pokémon menu.
  • If you save in Brock’s gym and restart your game, the sandstorm is blue. Gameplay is unaffected. Same in Groudon’s cave.
  • If you have only one Pokémon in your party for a double battle, it will send out that Pokémon twice.
  • If you try to enter Groudon’s cave and end up in the Sunken Palace (or vice versa), you are playing on an outdated version of the game. Update to the new version to fix the bug.
