About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Bill’s Secret Garden (BSG) is a Vanilla+ ROM hack of Pokémon FireRed, developed by TibJib, designed to enhance the original Kanto experience without rewriting its core structure. The hack builds on the Complete FireRed Upgrade (CFRU) and Dynamic Pokémon Expansion (DPE), integrating modern mechanics, expanded Pokémon availability, and extensive quality-of-life updates.
The defining addition is Bill’s Secret Garden, a new optional area accessed through a teleporter hidden in Bill’s house. This garden is home to Pokémon originating from the Gold & Silver Spaceworld Beta, along with new evolutions and expanded evolutionary lines. In total, the hack introduces 43 new Pokémon beyond the vanilla FireRed roster.
Rather than aiming for spectacle or extreme difficulty, Bill’s Secret Garden focuses on curated expansion—making FireRed feel richer, more complete, and more replayable while remaining recognizably classic.
Story Overview
Key Features
- Bill’s Secret Garden Area: A new optional garden accessed via Bill’s house, featuring Spaceworld Beta Pokémon and related evolutions.
- Spaceworld Pokémon Restoration: Introduces 43 new Pokémon, including new evolutionary lines and evolutions tied to unused Gen 2 concepts.
- CFRU + Dynamic Pokémon Expansion Base: Adds Fairy type, modern moves, abilities, updated battle mechanics, and DexNav support.
- Complete Gen 3 Availability: All 386 Generation III Pokémon are obtainable, with nearly all available before the Elite Four.
- Later-Generation Evolutions and Forms: Pre-evolutions, evolutions, regional forms, variants, and Paradox Pokémon are integrated as split evolutions from original Gen 3 lines.
- Trainer Team Enhancements: Trainer rosters are updated to reflect expanded Pokémon availability. While not intended as a difficulty hack, battles are naturally more challenging than vanilla FireRed.
- Expanded Tutors, Shops, and Items: New move tutors, revised TM distribution, expanded PokéMart inventories, and additional vendors across Kanto and the Sevii Islands.
- Hard Mode Patch: Optional separate patch that increases difficulty through higher trainer levels, optimized teams, remixed Gym Leaders, adjusted rival battles, and endgame super bosses—without enforced level caps or item bans.
- Modern QoL Improvements: Running Shoes from the start, repeatable Move Tutors, early DexNav access, EV/IV viewing, IV-maxing tutor, improved item availability, and reduced National Dex requirements.
Known Bugs & Issues

- Some Pokémon (primarily regional forms) only award 1 EXP.
- National Dex completion is not acknowledged by Oak or the Game Freak Director due to backend limitations.
- Rare, non-reproducible issues reported with the Mega Evolution easter egg.
- Minor graphical glitches when shopping at Celadon Mansion rooftop vendors.
