About This ROM Hack
Pokémon WaveBlue is a modernized FireRed ROM hack built on the pokefirered-expansion decomp maintained by Cawtds. Its main goal is to enhance quality of life, modernize battle mechanics, and increase challenge, especially when facing Gym Leaders, rivals, Giovanni, and the Elite Four.
Unlike traditional FireRed gameplay, this hack implements features from generations 4–9, such as Physical/Special split, Fairy type, modern TM mechanics, and expanded Kanto evolutions, while keeping the classic GBA FireRed experience intact.
Story Overview
The story largely follows the original Kanto journey with updated challenges. Players progress through the Kanto region, battling Gym Leaders, Team Rocket, and iconic trainers while collecting all Kanto Pokémon, including Mew.
Though the plot remains familiar, WaveBlue emphasizes trainer strategy and survival, requiring the player to optimize team composition, EVs, IVs, and items to overcome revamped Gym and Elite Four battles.
