About This ROM Hack

Pokémon WaveBlue is a heavily modernized version of Pokémon FireRed designed around improving overall gameplay flow, battle strategy, and quality-of-life systems while still preserving the core structure of classic Kanto. Instead of completely rewriting the original story, the hack focuses on refining mechanics, improving trainer battles, expanding the Pokédex, and introducing modern-generation features directly into Generation 3.

The main goal of the project is to create a smoother and more challenging FireRed experience where important battles actually feel competitive. Gym Leaders, rivals, Giovanni, and Elite Four members now use optimized teams complete with held items, EVs, IVs, strong abilities, and competitive natures. This creates a much more tactical experience compared to vanilla FireRed while still remaining fair to players.

One of the standout aspects of Pokémon WaveBlue is how many modern mechanics have been integrated naturally into the game. Features like the Physical/Special Split, Fairy typing, Frostbite replacing Freeze, reusable TMs, Gen 9 obedience mechanics, portable Pokémon Box management, Hyper Training, Nature Mints, visible IVs and EVs, and modern Exp. Share systems help the game feel closer to a current-generation Pokémon title.

The hack also improves exploration and convenience by permanently removing trees and rocks after using Cut or Rock Smash, allowing HMs to be forgotten freely, reducing HM animation time, and introducing Infinite Repel functionality.

Unlike many modern hacks that rely on flashy gimmicks, Pokémon WaveBlue intentionally avoids Mega Evolution, Dynamax, and Z-Moves, instead focusing on strategic single battles and polished gameplay systems.
