About This ROM Hack
Pokémon SunGold is a large-scale enhancement hack for Pokémon HeartGold that began as a personal project inspired by Drayano's Blaze Black 2 and later evolved into a complete gameplay overhaul. Rather than simply increasing difficulty, the hack focuses on modernizing Pokémon HeartGold with mechanics from newer generations while introducing the creator's own ideas for Pokémon balance, move redesigns, and battle mechanics.
Built alongside its companion version Pokémon MoonSilver, SunGold adds the Fairy type, redesigns hundreds of Pokémon and moves, introduces a completely reworked type effectiveness chart, and gives many overlooked Pokémon meaningful improvements. The goal is to make as many Pokémon as possible worth using, whether they were traditionally considered weak or already popular.
Unlike MoonSilver, SunGold follows the original HeartGold story while introducing randomized wild encounters, tougher Gym Leaders, mixed-type boss teams, and numerous quality-of-life improvements. Every major gameplay change has been documented by the creator, making it easy for players to explore the hack's extensive mechanical changes.

- Fully Implemented Fairy Type: The Fairy type has been integrated into the game, including both official Generation VI Fairy Pokémon and thirteen additional Pokémon that receive Fairy as a secondary typing, such as Meganium, Milotic, Mareep, and Misdreavus.
