About This ROM Hack
Sacred Gold & Storm Silver are the HeartGold and SoulSilver counterparts to Blaze Black & Volt White, developed by Drayano, built with the same philosophy: fuller Pokémon availability, tougher battles, and a more strategic experience without losing what made the originals worth playing.
All 493 Gen IV Pokémon are obtainable, and almost all of them are accessible before the first Elite Four run — which means team-building is genuinely flexible rather than being funneled into whatever the game decides to make available. Trade evolutions have been reworked so nothing requires another player to obtain.
Trainer teams have been overhauled across the board. Gym Leaders, the Elite Four, and major rivals now field full six-Pokémon teams with varied movesets, which is a significant step up from the original games. Many Pokémon have revised stats, abilities, level-up moves, TM compatibility, and in some cases typings — changes designed to make more of the roster viable rather than just padding out numbers.
Beyond the mechanical side, there's a solid amount of new scripted content. New legendary encounters, a Team Rocket takeover of Route 47 and the Safari Zone, early Eevee from Cynthia, Shellder and Cloyster in Fuchsia City, and various events that hand out new Pokémon, items, or TMs. Aesthetically, trainer battle backgrounds have been updated, text has been decapitalized, and inter-regional sprites from Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Black & White have been added throughout.
Quality-of-life touches round things out — EXP Share available early, reduced HM obstacles, more accessible evolution stones, and purchasable Game Corner coins.
Story Overview
The hack largely follows the original HG/SS storyline. Key story enhancements include:
- A series of new events and encounters tied to legendary Pokémon and inter-regional trainers.
- Introduction of a ‘Legendary Trainer’ subplot involving Plate items and the game’s creator, though this is a late addition and not fully fleshed out.
- Added linear progression adjustments to guide players through Johto and Kanto in a way that naturally increases difficulty and ensures balanced level curves.
The story preserves the classic HG/SS experience while layering in new strategic and collectible content.
Key Features
Full Pokémon Availability: All 493 Gen IV Pokémon are obtainable without trading, though some legendaries are scripted. Players receive the National Dex immediately.
Enhanced Trainer Battles: Gym Leaders, Elite Four members, and key trainers use six Pokémon with higher levels and improved AI, providing a significant challenge.
Expanded Pokémon Data: Stats, moves, types, abilities, TMs, and level-up evolutions are adjusted in the Complete version. Evolution requirements are simplified; no trade evolutions are required.
Quality-of-Life Improvements: Early access to EXP Share, purchasable evolution stones and TMs, and streamlined HM usage reduce repetitive gameplay obstacles. Game Corner prizes are updated to include rare Pokémon.
Scripted Events: Legendaries and special Pokémon are integrated via story-driven events rather than random encounters. Many events provide items, TMs, and Pokémon not normally obtainable in HG/SS.
Aesthetic Enhancements:
- Updated trainer and battle backgrounds (e.g., Karen and Lance).
- Overworld sprite updates, including inter-regional Pokémon and Black & White-style sprites.
- Decapitalized Pokémon names and minor dialogue improvements.
Known Bugs & Issues
- Black/white screens may occur in the Safari Zone.
- Route 47 battle activation can glitch.
- Certain dialogues, e.g., MooMoo Milk and Odd Keystone, contain errors.
- Some Pokémon are missing abilities or have incorrect moves (e.g., Garchomp lacks Rough Skin; Claydol doesn’t learn Fly; Vespiquen lacks Intimidate).
- Freeze events for Celebi and Mew occur on some flashcards.
- Super Rod encounters may produce Missingno. at night in certain 30% slots.
- Flags occasionally reset for unknown reasons.
- Minor evolution quirks (Feebas, Mantyke).
- Other small typographical and overworld errors.
