About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Blaze Black 2 and Pokémon Volt White 2 are full enhancement hacks of Black 2 and White 2, created by Drayano as sequels to his original Blaze Black and Volt White. These hacks are designed to offer a significantly more challenging and content-rich experience while keeping the core Unova journey intact.

The defining feature is the ability to catch all 649 Pokémon within a single playthrough, removing version exclusivity and trading requirements. Alongside this, trainers across the game have been heavily reworked to provide a tougher and more varied challenge, making every battle more strategic.

Despite being two versions, the differences are mostly aesthetic (such as Opelucid City’s appearance), meaning players can freely choose either version without gameplay impact.

Story Overview

The story follows the original Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 narrative, taking place in the Unova region two years after the events of the first games. While the story remains unchanged, the journey itself is far more intense due to stronger trainers, expanded encounters, and increased team-building freedom.

Key Features

  • Complete National Dex Access: All 649 Pokémon are obtainable within the game, eliminating the need for trading or external transfers.
  • Expanded Wild Encounters: Every area features a significantly increased variety of Pokémon, often with 8+ species per location.
  • Challenging Trainer Battles: Nearly all trainers have improved teams, higher levels, and better strategies for a more difficult experience.
  • Enhanced Boss Battles: Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and rivals feature stronger teams, with Challenge Mode giving them full teams of six.
  • Increased Level Curve: The overall difficulty is raised, with the Elite Four typically requiring teams in the level 70 range.
  • Pokémon Rebalancing: Changes to stats, abilities, movepools, and TM compatibility improve viability and diversity.
  • Optional Vanilla Mode: A separate version removes Pokémon stat and move changes while keeping other improvements intact.
  • Move Adjustments: Certain moves are buffed or reworked (e.g., Cut becoming Grass-type, Pledge moves increased in power).
  • Reworked Evolution Methods: Trade evolutions are replaced with item-based methods like Covenant Ore for easier solo play.
  • Earlier Access to Strong TMs: Powerful moves like Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, and Earthquake are available much earlier.
  • Item Distribution Overhaul: Evolution items and useful held items are more accessible throughout the game world.
  • Updated Poké Marts: Shops now sell a wider variety of useful items, including evolution items and competitive resources.
  • Legendary Expansion: Many additional legendary Pokémon are available through new encounters before and after the League.
  • Improved In-Game Trades: Trades now offer better Pokémon, including options like Togepi and Gengar before the Elite Four.
  • New Events and Battles: Includes Gym Leader rematches, Hoenn Leader battles, and fights against protagonists Hilbert and Hilda.
  • Hidden Grotto Overhaul: Grottos feature a wider variety of Pokémon, including starters and those with useful abilities.
  • TM Replacements: Less useful TMs are replaced with stronger options like Hurricane, Sucker Punch, and Bug Buzz.

Known Bugs & Issues

Some issues persist, including keys not saving unless the game is saved immediately after obtaining them. Certain evolution mechanics (such as Slowking via King’s Rock) do not function correctly and require alternative methods like catching it in the wild.

Additionally, some planned features—like EV-training-focused breeder battles—were not implemented. Minor inconsistencies in flags and events may occur depending on version usage, especially when using older save files.
