About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Altair and Pokémon Sirius are paired GBA ROM hacks that act as a story-driven sequel to Pokémon Emerald, set in a heavily altered Hoenn region following a catastrophic meteor impact.

These hacks are best known for:

  • Introducing Meteoric Pokémon, an early form of Fakemon
  • A dark, complex narrative involving mind control, artificial Pokémon, and moral ambiguity
  • Serving as the narrative foundation for Pokémon Vega

Altair and Sirius function similarly to official paired versions, with minor version differences in Pokémon availability and select events.

Story Overview

Three years after Champion Brendan’s retirement, Hoenn is devastated by a meteor disaster known as the Hoenn Catastrophe. Much of southern Hoenn becomes a wasteland, the Battle Frontier is destroyed, and many Pokémon species go extinct. In their place, mysterious Meteoric Pokémon begin appearing.

The player moves to Littleroot Town and is tasked by Professor Birch with completing the Pokédex to document these new species. Along the journey, you encounter:

  • Team BH (Black Hole), led by Wallace, seeking world harmony through absolute control
  • Team WH (White Hole), led by Steven, opposing BH but later revealed to have their own sinister agenda
  • Aldina, an artificial Pokémon created through unethical experimentation
  • Nemea, a powerful Meteoric Pokémon capable of mind control

As legendary Pokémon awaken and Hoenn faces destruction once more, the player uncovers the truth behind the catastrophe, defeats the Pokémon League, and eventually travels to Alto Mare, a city inspired by Pokémon Heroes. The story concludes with the player returning home, setting the stage for the events of Pokémon Vega.
