About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Dark Energy is a story-focused RPG ROM hack built on Pokémon Silver (U), designed to feel more like a traditional JRPG (inspired by Final Fantasy) than a standard Pokémon adventure. Instead of traveling town-to-town collecting Gym Badges and eventually challenging the Elite Four, the game emphasizes narrative progression, quests, and world-building.

The hack introduces a brand-new region called Suden, a deep historical setting, and a lore-heavy storyline centered around mysterious Elemental Orbs. With optional sidequests, altered Pokémon mechanics, and reworked progression systems, Pokémon Dark Energy offers a fresh and unique take on Generation 2 gameplay.

Story Overview

Welcome to the world of Suden.

The year is 1571, nearly a thousand years after a devastating global conflict known as The Crisis ended. Since then, the world has lived in peace—until now.

A mysterious man named Maxime has founded an organization with unclear intentions, seeking powerful artifacts known as Elemental Orbs, relics long forgotten by the world.

One year later, archaeologists working for the University of The Capital uncover ancient writings in Rocky Mountain that reference the same Elemental Orbs Maxime seeks. As events begin to unfold, the protagonist and a classmate are sent on what seems like a simple research mission—one that soon spirals into an epic, dangerous journey that will determine the fate of Suden itself.
