About This ROM Hack
Pokémon REGIUS: An Island Adventure is an original Pokémon ROM hack set in the Regius Archipelago, a newly created island region made up of multiple remote islands connected by open seas. The hack focuses heavily on atmosphere, exploration, and mystery, blending classic Pokémon Emerald mechanics with modern quality-of-life changes and original Pokémon species.
The current release is a public beta. While the core region is fully playable, a small number of areas remain inaccessible due to missing late-game progression items (such as the Strength HM). The developer plans to expand the game significantly before considering it complete.
Story Overview
Your journey begins in the Regius Archipelago, a chain of isolated islands scattered across a vast ocean. Each island features a distinct ecosystem, ranging from arid deserts and dense jungles to volcanic landscapes and ancient ruins.
Long before modern settlement, a forgotten civilization once thrived here. Crumbling ruins and strange landmarks hint at secrets buried beneath the islands’ surfaces. As you travel between islands, explore wild environments, and meet local inhabitants, you’ll slowly uncover fragments of the archipelago’s past.
While the overarching story is intentionally mysterious and understated in the beta version, the narrative is designed to grow deeper over time, eventually revealing the truth behind Regius and its lost history.
Key Features
- All-New Island Region: The Regius Archipelago is a completely original region made up of multiple islands, each with its own terrain, atmosphere, and visual identity.
- 48+ Brand New Pokémon Species: The region is home to dozens of original Pokémon found nowhere else, with more planned for future updates.
- Double Battle-Centric Gameplay: Most trainer battles are double battles by default, creating a stronger emphasis on team synergy. This can be toggled off in the options menu at any time.
- Physical / Special Split with Icons: Moves are split by category, with clear in-battle icons for readability.
- Overhauled HM System: HM field effects are unlocked permanently when obtained. Pokémon no longer need to learn HM moves, and HM moves can be freely forgotten.
- Modernized Mechanics: Trade evolution items function like evolution stones, Pokémon can be nicknamed directly from the party menu, and money loss on defeat is more forgiving.
- Environmental Interactions: Smashable rocks can drop items, and surfing no longer interrupts route music.
- Expanded Menus & UI: Additional bag pockets and a scrolling options menu provide better usability.
