About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Sors 2 is a tech demo installment in the VytroVerse series, acting as Part 4 of a larger connected ROM hack universe that includes Pokémon Saiph, Sors, and Saiph 2. Built on a heavily modified Pokémon FireRed base, it aims to expand both narrative depth and gameplay systems into a more modern RPG-like structure while still retaining Pokémon core mechanics.

The hack introduces the new region of Aclyn, alongside a complex storyline that follows political tension, the International Police, and the aftermath of events from Pokémon Sors. Unlike traditional Pokémon hacks, Sors 2 focuses heavily on world systems, faction conflicts, progression ranks, and multiple gameplay modes, making it feel closer to a hybrid between Pokémon and a structured RPG progression game.

A major design focus of this project is player choice in gameplay structure. Players can adjust difficulty, scaling, and experience systems through multiple selectable modes, including a dedicated Hero Mode designed for high-difficulty, structured progression gameplay.

Because this is a tech demo, the content represents an early but highly ambitious framework of what the full VytroVerse vision aims to become.

Story Overview

The story takes place after the events of Pokémon Sors, where the political and organizational landscape of the world has shifted dramatically. The International Police has established control in the region of Hupest, following the collapse and arrest of key figures connected to previous conflicts.

However, stability does not last. In the main headquarters of Aclyn, internal restructuring begins as the International Police attempts to form a new operational group after previous units disbanded due to major incidents. Meanwhile, former figures like Asher re-emerge, breaking prior agreements and launching unexpected actions against the organization.

This creates a chain reaction of political tension, investigations, and renewed conflict. At the center of this evolving situation is a new protagonist, Rene (or Haru), a young citizen of Aclyn who joins the International Police cadet program under Lori’s leadership.

As a cadet, the player begins a structured ascent through ranks while uncovering deeper truths behind past incidents, organizational corruption, and the mysterious return of key figures connected to earlier events in the VytroVerse timeline.

The narrative focuses heavily on institutional conflict, personal growth, and uncovering hidden motives within a large interconnected world, with multiple unresolved threads introduced due to its tech demo nature.

Key Features

  • New Region - Aclyn: Explore the entirely new region of Aclyn, home to the International Police headquarters and filled with unique locations, challenges, and storylines to discover.
  • Complete Fire Red Upgrade Engine: The game runs on the CFRU (Complete Fire Red Upgrade) engine combined with DPE and Leon's Base, updating the GBA experience to Generation 8 and Pokémon Legends: Arceus standards, including Physical/Special split, updated items, moves, abilities, and Pokémon species.
  • Advanced Battle AI: Experience proper, intelligent Battle AI that provides challenging and strategic opponent behavior rather than the simplistic AI of vanilla Fire Red.
  • Multiple Gameplay Modes: Customize your playthrough with Randomizer Mode (randomized encounters and items), Level Scaling (opponents scale to your team's level), and Hero Mode (significantly increased difficulty). These modes can be combined in any configuration to create your ideal challenge level.
  • Toggleable Experience Share: Control whether all Pokémon in your party gain experience from battles with a toggleable Exp. All feature accessible through the in-game menus.
  • Hero Mode Challenge: For dedicated and skilled players seeking the ultimate test, Hero Mode offers a significantly more difficult experience with enhanced trainer teams, strategic AI, and reduced player advantages.
  • Regional and National Pokédex: Access both Regional Dex (featuring Pokémon native to Aclyn) and National Dex (all available Pokémon across generations) tracking systems.
  • DexNav System: Utilize the DexNav feature to track wild Pokémon in each area, see which species you've encountered, and search for specific Pokémon with potentially better stats, egg moves, or hidden abilities.
  • Side Quests & Achievement System: Complete optional Side Quests and earn Achievements tracked through a proper Quest Log UI, adding depth and replayability beyond the main storyline.
  • PokéNests to Conquer: Discover and challenge PokéNests—special locations featuring unique battles and rewards that test your team's capabilities.
  • HM-Free Field Moves: Traditional HM moves like Cut, Surf, and Fly have been replaced with Field Moves that don't require teaching HM moves to your Pokémon, eliminating the need for dedicated HM slaves and allowing more flexible team building.
  • Eclipsing Mechanic: A unique story-driven mechanic central to The VytroVerse series (note: not featured in the current Tech Demo but planned for future releases).
  • Day/Night System: Experience a real-time Day/Night cycle with potential time-specific events, encounters, and interactions. Requires an emulator that supports Real-Time Clock (RTC) functionality for full implementation.
  • Platform Mode Options: Choose between Standard Mode (recommended emulators with BIOS support for optimal compatibility) and alternative platform configurations accessible through the Aclyn Network app at any time.
  • Custom Music and Audio: Enjoy original arrangements and compositions for battles, exploration, and story moments, including a custom opening theme, wild battle theme, and trainer battle theme.
  • Enhanced Visual Features: Experience BW-styled HP bars, custom battle backgrounds, updated PC UI, redesigned trainer card, improved naming screen, and clock display on the start menu.

Known Bugs & Issues

  • "Poison Survivor" Quest Bug: The "Poison Survivor" task cannot be completed in the Tech Demo build.
  • "Beware, Vending Machine" Quest Bug: The "Beware, Vending Machine" task cannot be completed in the Tech Demo build.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is this hack/game for?

A: Pokémon Sors 2 is ideal for players who enjoy story-driven ROM hacks with interconnected narratives, especially those who have played the previous VytroVerse games.

Q: Do I need to play the previous VytroVerse games to understand Pokémon Sors 2?

A: While Pokémon Sors 2 can technically be played as a standalone experience, the story directly references and builds upon events from Pokémon Sors (Part 2) and Pokémon Saiph 2 (Part 3). The VytroVerse series is designed as an interconnected saga, so playing through Parts 1-3 provides the complete context.

Q: What are the different gameplay modes, and how do they work?

A: Pokémon Sors 2 offers three customizable modes that can be combined: Randomizer Mode shuffles wild Pokémon encounters and potentially items/trainers for unpredictable gameplay; Level Scaling adjusts opponent trainer levels to match your team's average level, maintaining consistent challenge throughout the game; and Hero Mode dramatically increases difficulty with stronger trainer teams, smarter AI, and reduced player advantages. You can enable any combination—for example, playing with both Level Scaling and Hero Mode for maximum challenge, or Randomizer alone for variety. These modes can be toggled through the in-game Aclyn Network app.

Q: Will there be more parts of The VytroVerse series?

A: Yes, the developer has confirmed that further parts beyond Pokémon Sors 2 (Part 4) are planned for the future, continuing The VytroVerse saga. The interconnected storyline and recurring characters suggest an ongoing narrative arc across multiple games.
