About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Sors is a feature-rich FireRed ROM hack by Vytron and serves as Part 2 of The VytroVerse series, sandwiched between Pokémon Saiph and future entries like Pokémon Sors 2. The game builds a completely new region, custom story, modern battle systems, side quests, and mechanics updated to post-Gen 6/7 standards, all within the GBA engine.

Sors blends classic Pokémon adventure with modern RPG elements — updated visuals, enhanced battle mechanics, and a deep narrative inspired by an in-world cosmic phenomenon known as “The Eclipse.”

Story Overview

The history of the Hupest Region is marked by an extraordinary celestial event. 300 years ago, a massive lunar eclipse occurred, followed by a full solar eclipse, triggering mysterious changes in Pokémon behavior, appearance, and temperament — a period recorded as The Grand Eclipse.

Centuries later, a scientific organization studies this phenomenon in an attempt to harness its power, leading to the creation of Eclipse Pokémon — Pokémon that take on unique forms or typings due to Eclipse influence. As an aspiring trainer from Hupest, your journey weaves through modern science, tradition, cosmic mystery, and the unfolding consequences of Eclipse energy.

Your adventure pits you against villainous factions aiming to recreate or control the Eclipse, pushing you to uncover hidden secrets, battle new challenges, and explore every corner of the vast Hupest region.

Key Features

  • New Region – Hupest: A completely original region with thematic locations, varied biomes, and lore tied to Eclipse phenomena.
  • Custom Soundtrack: Music remixed in styles inspired by Black 2/White 2 and HGSS soundfonts, adding modern atmosphere and immersion.
  • Updated Graphics: Visuals take cues from Nintendo DS titles like HeartGold/SoulSilver and Black/White, including animated sprites and refreshed UI assets.
  • Expanded Pokémon Roster: Pokémon available from Generation 1 up through Generation 7, with most included in the regional and National Pokédex.
  • Almost Full National Dex: Roughly 758 Pokémon plus over 40 custom Eclipse Pokémon are catchable (varies by version).
  • Modern Battle Mechanics:
    • Physical/Special Split
    • Updated movesets and abilities
    • Gen 7 battle balance and PP/accuracy standards
    • Eclipse mechanic adds new battle depth
  • Eclipsing Battle System: A signature mechanic where “Eclipse Pokémon” and related effects play a role in both story and competitive battles.
  • Day/Night Cycle & Soaring: Dynamic time influences the world; soaring unlocks deeper exploration in the full release.
  • Side Quests & Quest Log: Structured side content with a proper quest tracking interface adds optional challenges and lore.
  • Transparent UI & Aesthetic Updates: Visual improvements — such as transparent text boxes — modernize the GBA interface.
  • Custom Story & Characters: Beats a straight FireRed narrative, with original locations, villains, quest arcs, and story beats tied to the Eclipse theme.
  • Custom Sound & Battle Themes: A mix of original compositions and remixed tracks give Sors a distinct audio identity.

Known Bugs & Issues

  • Demo save files are incompatible with full release — do not use demo progress.
  • PokéMart graphics may appear glitchy during shopping sequences.
  • New Pokémon registered in the Pokédex sometimes display a placeholder Rattata sprite (but register correctly).
  • Level display in summary screens can show stray pixels.
  • After using Latias for the first time, do not dismount at Inizio Isle — you can only escape later using Soar after storyline progression.
  • TM selection text box may display misaligned text (visual only).

Additionally, players have reported emulator compatibility quirks on certain platforms (Delta, retro handhelds), often resolved by applying specific emulator patches provided by the creator.
