Evolution Changes

Overview

A common issue in Pokémon games is that many Pokémon require trading — with or without an item — in order to evolve. This hack solves that by making the game fully self-contained, letting you trigger every evolution without trading.

Some Unovan Pokémon have also had their evolution levels lowered to keep them viable alongside faster-evolving counterparts. Level-up moves have been adjusted accordingly, though this only applies to the Complete version — the Vanilla version retains the original level-up moves.

The sections below list each unevolved Pokémon, its evolved form, and the new evolution method. In most cases this simply means using the item that was previously required for the trade evolution. Item locations can be found in the Item & Trade Changes document.

A few evolutions use custom items created specifically for this hack — players of Sacred Gold & Storm Silver will likely recognise the concept. These items are the Woodland Ore, the Frozen Ore, and the newly introduced Covenant Ore (a counterpart to the SG/SS Covenant Orb, created due to technical limitations). Every single evolution item is also available at the Route 9 Department Store.
