About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Ruby Destiny: Life of Guardians is one of the earlier and more ambitious entries in the Ruby Destiny series. It introduces the region of Hevah, a world affected by chaos caused by the mysterious presence of the Dark Organization and past experiments tied to “Team Go-Getters.”

Unlike traditional Pokémon Ruby experiences, this hack leans heavily into a story-driven RPG structure, featuring branching paths, multiple moral routes, and a stronger focus on narrative consequences.

A key mechanic is the three-mode system (Good, Normal, Bad), which directly influences story progression, events, and outcomes. This makes the game feel less linear than standard Pokémon hacks and more like a choice-driven adventure.

It also includes systems such as day/night cycles, higher item cost balancing, reduced trainer payouts, and custom event scripting, giving it a more survival-oriented and strategic feel compared to vanilla Ruby.

Story Overview

In a world altered by Team Go-Getters, a young girl dreams of becoming a Guardian Trainer, despite not knowing how to achieve it. Determined, she leaves home to befriend a Pokémon and travel the region to learn about Guardian Trainers.

Early in her journey, she is stopped by her childhood friend, Kevin, and together they encounter a shaman being chased by members of the Dark Organization, who try to steal Pokémon. The girl entrusts the players with Pokémon to battle the grunts. Upon defeating them, the grunts flee, and the girl rewards the players with the Pokémon they used in battle.

With this, the heroine finally begins her journey, navigating a chaotic Hevah region, facing trials, strange dreams, and a path that could either lead her to achieve her goal or derail her destiny.

Key Features

  • Guardian Trainer System: Instead of a traditional trainer journey, the player follows the path of becoming a Guardian Trainer, a lore-based role tied to protecting the region and interacting with key story events.
  • Branching Story Modes: The game features three distinct narrative routes that change events, dialogue, and progression depending on player choices.
  • Hevah Region: Explore the original region of Hevah, featuring new towns, routes, maps, and story-driven locations.
  • Day & Night System: The world changes depending on time, affecting encounters, events, and immersion.
  • Gen 4, Gen 5 & Custom Pokémon: Includes Pokémon from later generations along with original custom creations.
  • Economic Balancing System: Trainer payouts are reduced and item prices are increased, making resource management more important.
  • Custom Story Rivals: New rivals and story characters shape progression and add emotional and narrative depth.
  • Event-Heavy Gameplay: Progression relies heavily on scripted events, cutscenes, and story triggers rather than open exploration alone.

Known Bugs & Issues

  • Occasional scripting inconsistencies during events
  • Music timing delays in some areas
  • Audio balance issues (some tracks are too loud)
  • Input sensitivity issues during cutscenes (holding or spamming buttons may break events)
