About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Chroma is a story-driven Pokémon Emerald ROM hack built using pret’s pokeemerald decompilation, allowing for deep mechanical changes and modern features. While it visually resembles Pokémon FireRed, it runs on Emerald due to engine-level enhancements and expanded scripting support.
The hack introduces the Ryoko Region, an original setting with a custom storyline, a wide multi-generation Pokédex, and numerous quality-of-life upgrades. Pokémon Chroma aims to deliver a modern Pokémon experience while retaining classic GBA-style presentation.
Story Overview
Today marks the opening of the Ryoko League’s annual circuit, a prestigious competition drawing trainers from across the Ryoko Region. You and your neighbor, Skip, receive your first Pokémon from the region’s leading researcher, Professor Cypress, and begin your journey toward becoming a League Champion.
However, your adventure quickly takes a darker turn. A dangerous criminal organization known as Team Proto, led by their Supreme Leader Apollo, seeks to overthrow the Ryoko Region entirely. As you collect Gym Badges and grow stronger, you’ll uncover Team Proto’s true ambitions and decide the fate of the region.
