About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Special Silver Quest is a Pokémon Silver ROM hack for the Game Boy Color created by ericgall23. It serves as the corrected and final version of one of the developer's earlier ROM hacks, featuring numerous improvements, expanded content, and a completely reworked adventure.

Instead of retelling the original Pokémon Silver journey, the game takes place several years after the events of Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal in an alternate version of the Kanto and Johto regions. Cities, routes, caves, Gym progression, and story events have all been redesigned, resulting in a fresh experience even for players familiar with the original games.

The hack also modernizes many gameplay systems by incorporating move updates inspired by later generations, expanded exploration, revised trainer battles, new facilities, and numerous quality-of-life improvements while remaining faithful to the Game Boy Color engine.

Story Overview

The adventure takes place several years after the original Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal storyline in an alternate version of Kanto and Johto where the regions have changed considerably over time.

Rather than beginning in New Bark Town, you start your adventure in Viridian City, where your journey revolves around completing various quests instead of simply traveling from Gym to Gym. Progress often requires finding important items, exploring hidden locations, and solving objectives before advancing through the story.

Early in the adventure, you receive one of three cloned Legendary Pokémon—Mewtwo, Mew, or Celebi. These Pokémon were created by researchers, and their mysterious origins gradually become part of the game's overarching narrative.

As you travel across the redesigned regions, you'll uncover a completely original storyline while exploring rebuilt locations, challenging stronger Gym Leaders, and discovering numerous surprises throughout Kanto and Johto.
