About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Snakewood: Resurrected is a small remake and gameplay experiment based on the infamous Pokémon Snakewood ROM hack. The project was originally conceived as a high-effort April Fools' release and serves more as a demonstration of mechanics and ideas than a traditional ROM hack.

Rather than recreating the entire original game, the developer rebuilt the opening portion of Snakewood from scratch using modern hacking tools and design ideas. The remake preserves the spirit and bizarre tone of the original while introducing several gameplay improvements, including rewritten dialogue, rebalanced encounters, and survival-style mechanics.

The game intentionally stops early and only adapts the beginning of the original story up to the Rusturf Tunnel event. The developer has clearly stated that there are no plans to expand it into a full remake, and the project mainly exists as a creative experiment and tribute to Snakewood’s chaotic legacy.

Despite its short length, the hack introduces several interesting mechanics, including item crafting inspired by Paper Mario, new Pokémon types, and survival-style resource management systems.

Story Overview

Pokémon Snakewood: Resurrected takes place several years after the events of Pokémon Ruby and Emerald, in a version of Hoenn that has been devastated by a mysterious undead outbreak.

You play as the lost sibling of Hoenn Champion Landon, awakening in a world that has already fallen into chaos. Zombies roam the region, Pokémon have become twisted undead versions of themselves, and the few remaining survivors struggle to stay alive.
