About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Emerald Multiplayer is a gameplay overhaul designed to turn the classic single-player Pokémon Emerald adventure into a cooperative experience. Instead of battling trainers alone, two players can connect and fight trainers together in double battles throughout the game.
The hack expands the original Emerald with modern mechanics and quality-of-life features. It includes Pokémon from the Generation 9 National Dex, the Fairy type, updated moves, and several gameplay systems that didn’t exist in the original game.
One of the main goals of the project is to make cooperative play feel natural within the normal Emerald campaign. Two players can explore and challenge trainers side by side, sharing battles against the same opponents. The hack also introduces additional features such as a built-in randomizer, a Soullink mode for challenge runs, a day/night cycle, and optional mechanics that encourage replayability.
Key Features
- Co-op Trainer Battles: Two players can connect and battle together against almost any trainer in the game through link multi battles, turning the single-player Emerald campaign into a cooperative experience.
- Generation 9 National Dex: Pokémon from multiple generations up to Generation 9 are included, greatly expanding the roster beyond the original Hoenn Pokédex.
- Fairy Type Integration: The Fairy type has been added along with related balance adjustments, updating the type chart and battle mechanics closer to modern Pokémon games.
- Built-in Randomizer: The game includes an integrated randomizer accessible through the options menu. Players can randomize trainers, wild encounters, and other gameplay elements without using external tools.
- Smart Randomization Options: Special modes like “Similar BST,” “Legendary,” and “3 Stage” allow more balanced randomization by replacing Pokémon with others of similar strength or evolutionary stage.
- Soullink Mode: A special challenge mode that links Pokémon by capture location. If one faints during a multiplayer battle, other linked Pokémon may also faint, creating higher stakes for cooperative runs.
- Rarer Candy Item: A key item that infinitely raises Pokémon levels. This compensates for the fact that experience gain is disabled during link multi battles.
- Double Battle Focus: Many encounters are designed to work smoothly with cooperative double battles, encouraging teamwork and coordinated strategies.
- Following Pokémon: Pokémon can follow the player in the overworld, adding a modern aesthetic feature not present in the original Emerald.
- Day/Night Cycle: A time-based system that changes the world depending on the time of day, something the original Emerald did not include.
- PSS System: A modern-style player interaction interface inspired by later Pokémon games, improving connectivity and multiplayer functionality.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What makes Pokémon Emerald Multiplayer different from the original Emerald?
A: The biggest change is that two players can connect and battle trainers together in cooperative double battles. The hack also includes modern mechanics like the Fairy type, Pokémon up to Generation 9, and new gameplay systems.
Q: Who is this hack/game for?
A: This hack is ideal for players who enjoy cooperative gameplay, multiplayer Pokémon challenges, and replaying classic games with friends. It’s especially appealing to people who want a shared Pokémon adventure instead of a solo experience.
Q: Can the entire game be played in co-op?
A: Most trainer battles can be played cooperatively. Players connect and talk to the same trainer to initiate a link multi-battle.
Q: Does the game change the original Pokémon Emerald story?
A: The story remains mostly the same as the original Emerald. The main difference is the ability to play battles cooperatively with another player.
Q: What is the built-in randomizer used for?
A: The randomizer lets players shuffle Pokémon encounters, trainer teams, and other elements. It can also use balanced options like replacing Pokémon with others of similar base stat totals.
Q: What is Soullink mode?
A: Soullink mode links Pokémon based on their capture location. If one faints in battle, linked Pokémon may faint as well, making the challenge much harder and encouraging careful teamwork.
