About This ROM Hack
Pokémon PearGreen is a large-scale Gen 3 ROM hack built on Pokémon LeafGreen that reimagines the classic Kanto and Sevii setting in a far-future timeline after a catastrophic world-altering disaster. The result is a drastically changed environment where familiar locations feel both nostalgic and alien at the same time.
The world has been reshaped into a fractured version of the original Sevii Islands, now separated from what is referred to as Greater Kanto. In this new era, the ecosystem has evolved under extreme pressure, introducing Paradox Pokémon-like forms that dominate older species in power and survival efficiency. These new forms have rewritten the natural hierarchy of the region.
A major design choice in this hack is the preservation of classic Gen 3 mechanics, keeping the old-school feel intact while layering modern ideas on top. There are no modern type split systems or fairy-type additions, which helps maintain the nostalgic gameplay structure while still introducing new strategic depth through redesigned Pokémon and stats.
The hack also includes a heavily expanded post-game, effectively acting as a second region with new areas, encounters, and progression content. It is designed to feel like a continuation of the main journey rather than an afterthought.
Story Overview
Set in the future, Pokémon PearGreen takes place after a great disaster that has divided the Kanto region into two parts: the 'Sevii Region' and 'Greater Kanto.' As a result of this event, paradox forms of old Pokémon have emerged, becoming the dominant species of the Sevii Region. These new forms are rare but powerful, and you must capture them as you progress through the altered Sevii Region.
The game includes a unique storyline that involves battling through changed landscapes, encountering familiar but altered Pokémon, and discovering new evolutionary paths. The story also touches on the evolutionary arms race between the new paradox forms and the old ones, as well as the power struggles that have reshaped the world of Pokémon.
