About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Improved Emerald is a straightforward but meaningful enhancement of the original Emerald experience, focusing on balance, viability, and smarter difficulty design rather than flashy new features or story changes.
Created as a personal project, the hack aims to make every Pokémon feel usable, reworking stats, typings, and movesets so that even traditionally weaker Pokémon can shine. At the same time, the game raises the challenge by giving trainers larger, more diverse teams, without artificially inflating levels.
The philosophy here is clear: keep Emerald familiar, but make it better to play. With tweaks to mechanics, accessibility improvements, and subtle world changes, it delivers a refined Hoenn experience that feels both classic and refreshed.
Key Features
- All 386 Pokémon Obtainable: Every Pokémon from Generations 1–3 is available within a single playthrough.
- Trainer Difficulty Overhaul: Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and regular trainers use stronger, more diverse teams while keeping original level caps.
- Expanded Trainer Teams: Many trainers now carry more Pokémon, improving battle variety and challenge.
- Pokémon Viability Rebalance: Nearly every Pokémon has been buffed, with stat tweaks, moveset changes, and even some type changes to improve usefulness.
- Early EV Training Routes: Early-game areas are designed to function as EV training spots for easier competitive-style training.
- Wild Machop with Macho Brace: Machop may hold Macho Brace, speeding up EV training progression.
- Expanded Encounter Areas: Grass added to towns and extra areas on water routes for greater Pokémon diversity and themed zones.
- Reworked TM List: TM distribution and move options have been adjusted for better team-building flexibility.
- HM Move Buffs: HMs are stronger and more usable in battle (e.g., Cut becomes Bug-type and boosts Attack, Flash becomes an Electric attack that lowers Attack).
- Reduced RNG Mechanics: Accuracy, evasion, and OHKO move reliance is mostly removed to reduce luck-based outcomes.
- Cheap Rare Candies & Poké Balls: Rare Candies are inexpensive, and a money loop exists via Premier Balls, allowing fast training without grinding.
- Fully Evolved Pokémon Focus: Final evolutions are designed to be competitively viable rather than filler options.
