About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Brown: 20th Anniversary Edition is the definitive modern release of one of the most historically important Pokémon ROM hacks ever created. Originally released over twenty years ago as the first complete Pokémon Red modification to feature a brand-new region and story, Pokémon Brown helped shape the ROM hacking scene as it exists today.
This anniversary edition modernizes the classic while preserving its Game Boy authenticity, running entirely in classic binary. It introduces a huge number of quality-of-life improvements, graphical upgrades, expanded Pokémon availability, and new story content, all while remaining fully compatible with older save files.
Story Overview
The game takes place in the Rijon Region, a land completely separate from Kanto, filled with its own towns, routes, characters, and mysteries. While inspired by the structure of classic Pokémon Red, Pokémon Brown tells an original story that expands as you progress through the region.
Additional story content and lore have been added in the 20th Anniversary Edition, further enriching the Rijon saga and tying it more closely to later entries such as Pokémon Prism.
