About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Theta Emerald EX is a ground-up rebuild of the original Theta Emerald, and the difference shows. Where earlier versions felt incomplete — limited Pokémon, unfinished mechanics — this one is the whole package. Every Pokémon from Bulbasaur to Volcanion is in, all 721, alongside the full set of Gen VI moves, abilities, and battle mechanics. It's built to be stable and feature-complete, with no major additions planned beyond bug fixes.
The Hoenn story stays untouched. What changes is everything around it. Mega Evolution and Primal Reversion are in. Fairy-type is in. TMs are reusable. The Battle Frontier is there. HMs can be deleted. You get EXP from captures, you can run indoors, and the repel system has been modernized. The difficulty curve has been nudged up too, so it doesn't feel like a complete walkover.
A handful of smaller quality-of-life touches round it out — new battle backgrounds, level 1 eggs, an extended item pocket. Nothing dramatic, but the kind of stuff that makes the experience feel cleaner than the base game.
There are some minor glitches still floating around, mostly visual — display icons for newer Pokémon forms being the main culprit. Nothing that gets in the way of actually playing it.
If you want a complete, modernized Hoenn run with the full Gen VI roster and mechanics, this is one of the most solid options out there.
