About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Maize is an ambitious and long-term overhaul of Pokémon Red Version, developed over several years using the pokered disassembly. Rather than being a simple enhancement, Maize rebuilds the original game from the ground up, introducing modern Pokémon mechanics, new systems, and an entirely new region.
The hack blends Generation I aesthetics with later-generation gameplay features, including a physical/special split, new Pokémon types, modern evolution methods, and an optional built-in Nuzlocke Mode that actively enforces challenge rules.
The current Beta 3 release is playable through six gym badges and offers a highly polished and content-rich experience for a Game Boy–era ROM hack.
Story Overview
Pokémon Maize follows a mostly traditional Pokémon journey structure with a fresh narrative twist.
You begin your adventure in the newly created Boldor Region, setting out to become a Pokémon Master while confronting Team Quarry, an organization obsessed with excavating the land to construct a massive empire centered around their ideal city.
As you travel across Boldor, you will challenge gyms, explore towns shaped by industrial ambition, and deal with your ever-present childhood acquaintance—all while unraveling the consequences of Team Quarry’s relentless exploitation of the region.
