About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Digimon: Operation Digipedia is an ambitious Digimon crossover ROM hack built on Pokémon FireRed, aiming to faithfully recreate Digimon’s evolutionary philosophy within Pokémon mechanics.
Unlike simple Pokémon-to-Digimon reskins, this project focuses on:
- Multi-path Digivolution
- DNA Digivolution
- Armor Digivolution
- Custom Digimon types
- A Digivice-driven progression system
The current Digivolution Beta exists primarily to test Digimon, evolutions, and mechanics, not world polish or story completion.
Story Overview
In a peaceful world where Digimon are raised as companions, a mysterious disturbance begins corrupting the balance between humans and Digimon.
You are a teenager from Modem Town, sent by the town elder Gennai to investigate strange events occurring beyond your home. Alongside your rival Matt, you travel to uncover the truth behind Digimon turning hostile and evolving far beyond their natural limits.
You are entrusted with an ancient Digivice, once used by legendary Digidestined. Its data is incomplete, and only by capturing Digimon can you restore its power and unlock their true potential.
As legends resurface and ancient enemies return, you must collect the Crests of the Digidestined, confront dark Digimon such as DemiDevimon and Devimon, and decide whether to save the world—or rule it.
Key Features
Complete Digimon Conversion:
- All Pokémon species are fully replaced with Digimon, including names, sprites, typings, evolutions, and progression systems. There are no traditional Pokémon remaining in the game.
- Digivolution replaces Pokémon evolution and follows Digimon logic rather than linear evolution paths. Digimon can evolve in multiple ways depending on level, stats, items, and special conditions.
- Digimon begin at the Fresh level and Digivolve very early, allowing players to experience the full Digimon life cycle rather than starting at a fixed “starter” power level.
- Early Digivolutions are influenced by Attack and Defense comparisons (similar to Tyrogue), meaning the same starter can Digivolve into different forms based on training choices.
- Higher-level Digivolutions unlock later in the game, with some Digimon reaching Mega-level power that was previously rare in the world’s lore.
- Specific Digimon pairs can combine into powerful fusion Digimon. This system requires strict party conditions and replaces both Digimon with a new, stronger one.
- DNA Digivolutions can also be triggered via trading while holding specific items, offering multiple ways to access fusion Digimon.
- Armor Digivolution replaces evolution stones. Digi-Eggs allow Digimon to Digivolve into specialized armor forms with unique typings and strengths.
- Introduces Digimon-specific types such as Virus, Vaccine, Data, Holy, Beast, and Machine, significantly changing battle strategies compared to standard Pokémon.
- The Digivice is a core gameplay and story element that unlocks features, tracks progress, and ties directly into Digivolution mechanics.
- Items are reworked into Digicards, including Temporary Cards (TCs), Permanent Cards (PCs), Digi Modify Cards (DMCs), and Key Cards that interact with Digimon and the world.
- Players choose from three non-traditional Digimon starters (Jyarimon, Puttimon, Punimon), each representing a unique Digimon type rather than a fire-water-grass triangle.
- Gym Leaders are replaced with descendants of the original Digidestined, each representing a Crest and specific Digimon typings.
- Digimon sprites are resized and adapted from DS-era Digimon games, with custom editing to fit GBA limitations.
- The story, evolution logic, and mechanics are designed to reflect Digimon canon rather than Pokémon conventions.
Known Bugs & Issues
- Tile and mapping errors (expected in this beta)
- Placeholder back sprites for many Digimon
- Incomplete scripting and story events
- DNA Digivolution system still being refined

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is Pokémon Digimon: Operation Digipedia a complete game?A: No. This release is a Digivolution Beta, created primarily to test Digimon sprites, Digivolution mechanics, and systems. Story, mapping, and polish are still incomplete.
Q: Are Pokémon completely removed from the game?
A: Yes. All Pokémon are replaced with Digimon, including encounters, trainers, evolutions, and lore.
Q: How is Digivolution different from Pokémon evolution?
A: Digivolution is not linear. A single Digimon can Digivolve into multiple forms depending on stats, items, and special conditions, reflecting Digimon’s branching evolution paths.
Q: Why do Digimon start at Level 1?
A: Starting at Level 1 allows the full Fresh → In-Training → Rookie progression and supports the dynamic Digivolution system.
Q: Are non-canon Digivolutions included?
A: Yes. Some Digivolutions are non-canon to create a more unified and flexible Digimon evolution tree and ensure every Digimon traces back to a Fresh form.
Q: How does DNA Digivolution work?
A: You must have only two Digimon in your party that form a valid DNA pair. The game removes your party and gives you the fused Digimon.
Q: Do stats and abilities transfer during DNA Digivolution?
A: No. DNA Digivolution creates a new Digimon with predefined stats and abilities to maintain balance.
Q: Is Armor Digivolution permanent?
A: Armor Digivolution functions similarly to stone evolutions, creating specialized Digimon forms tied to Digi-Eggs.
Q: Are Mega-level Digimon available?
A: Yes, but they are rare and tied to story progression and advanced Digivolution paths.
Q: Is the story finished?
A: No. The main narrative is still a work in progress and currently serves as a framework for testing gameplay systems.
Q: Are all Digimon sprites finished?
A: No. Many sprites use placeholders, especially back sprites and higher-stage Digimon.
Q: Can I play this hack from start to finish?
A: You can play and test Digimon systems, but the game does not yet offer a full, polished adventure.
Q: Will this hack eventually become a full Digimon game?
A: That is the goal. Operation Digipedia is designed as a foundation for a complete Digimon-focused ROM hack.
