About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Enduring Emerald is a content-focused Pokémon Emerald ROM hack that reimagines the Hoenn experience using primarily Kanto Pokémon, with a small selection from Johto. The hack aims to blend the familiarity of Generation III mechanics with the nostalgia of earlier generations, creating a fresh yet recognizable journey.
The project emphasizes quality-of-life improvements, balanced progression, and accessibility, while preserving Emerald’s original structure and pacing.
Story Overview
The story closely follows Pokémon Emerald’s original narrative. You begin your journey in Hoenn, assist Professor Birch, challenge Gyms, and confront Team Aqua and Team Magma.
However, the Pokémon inhabiting Hoenn have changed significantly. Instead of Hoenn-native species, the region is now populated mostly by Pokémon from Kanto, altering team compositions, encounters, and battle strategies throughout the game.
Key Features
- Kanto-Focused Regional Dex: The Hoenn Pokédex is replaced with 175 Pokémon, primarily from Kanto with some from Johto.
- Fully Catchable Dex: All non-starter Pokémon in the regional Pokédex can be obtained without trading.
- Kanto Starters: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle replace the traditional Hoenn starters.
- Modified Opening Event: Professor Birch is saved from a Nidoran instead of a Zigzagoon.
- Badge-Based Poké Mart Progression: Poké Mart inventories are unlocked based solely on badge count, removing story gating.
- Overworld Poison Disabled: Poison no longer causes damage outside of battle, accounting for early-game Poison-types.
- Weather Institute Reward Change: Castform is replaced with Porygon2 as the event reward.
- Indoor Running Enabled: Players can run inside buildings for faster navigation.
- Universal HM Usage: Any Pokémon can use a field move if the required HM is in the bag, regardless of compatibility.
- Enhanced Exp. Share: Exp. Share is a toggleable key item that distributes experience to the entire party.
- Experience on Capture: Pokémon gain experience when catching wild Pokémon.
