About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Dark Rising 2 is the direct sequel to Pokémon Dark Rising 1 and continues its dark, narrative-heavy storyline. Built on Pokémon FireRed, this hack focuses strongly on plot progression, character development, and high-stakes battles rather than traditional badge-collecting alone. It features Pokémon from Generations 1 through 6, updated battle mechanics inspired by later generations, and a much more serious tone than official Pokémon games.
This hack is known for its challenging encounters, cinematic storytelling, and emphasis on legendary Pokémon, chosen-one themes, and large-scale conflict. As a sequel, it assumes familiarity with the events and characters of Dark Rising 1.
Story Overview
The story picks up after the events of Dark Rising 1. You awaken from a vivid and unsettling dream in the Core Region, where a mysterious Pokémon warns you of a dark force reawakening and pleads for your help. Soon, you learn that your best friend experienced the same vision. What begins as a strange coincidence quickly turns into a grim reality.
After assisting your town’s professor, you begin your journey alongside a powerful Dragon-type Pokémon. Along the way, you uncover the truth behind Darugis, a malevolent entity capable of controlling the minds of both humans and Pokémon. You learn that your father, once instrumental in sealing Darugis away, has been captured—along with the Pokémon from your prophetic dream—by forces loyal to this darkness.
Throughout your travels, you encounter allies and rivals shaped by tragedy and loss. Sydney seeks vengeance after witnessing her village destroyed during Darugis’s reawakening. Dray follows in his father’s footsteps, continuing the fight against the same evil your father once faced. Florina provides technological expertise and tactical support. Together with your childhood friend Pete—and even former enemies like Kayo—you confront Adrian, the Champion of the Omni Region, who has fallen under Darugis’s control.
As your strength grows, you face legendary trainers, including battles against Ash Ketchum himself. You discover that you are one of three “Chosen Ones,” each gifted with extraordinary abilities. You can bond and communicate with Pokémon, another chosen can create Pokémon through raw energy, and your best friend harbors a mysterious power yet to be revealed.
Three days after the fall of Malice Castle, Team Dark Rising departs for the Omni Region, leaving behind everything except their Dragon partners. Their goal: rescue your father, stop Darugis, and uncover whether an even greater threat looms beyond the darkness you already know.
