About This ROM Hack

Pokemon Dark Cry: The Legend of Giratina is a revival and expansion of the original Pokemon Dark Cry project created by Mitchel1. The hack gained popularity between 2009–2012 but was never officially completed.

After a major unfixable glitch halted development, the project was partially rebuilt with the help of Mindfreak, who assisted with reinserting graphics and ASM routines.

Years later, a hackrepairman's patch (Hotfix Alpha 2.6.7, updated June 1, 2025) was released to restore broken features, fix glitches, and make previously unobtainable Fakemon available. The goal of the fix was not to perfectly replicate the creator’s full vision, but to make the game more playable and complete while preserving its core identity.

This hack features a fully custom region (Trion), a darker story, time-based mechanics, custom systems, and multiple technical enhancements beyond standard FireRed.

Story Overview

You awaken inside a cave, unable to move, speak, or call your Pokémon. Everything around you appears distorted—black and white, lifeless. Before you stand two figures performing a ritual at a dark altar. They speak of a mysterious artifact known as the Shadow Plate.

A man bearing an “R” emblem passes straight through you as if you do not exist. The ritual continues. The ground shakes violently. A massive shadow approaches.

You wake up.

It was only a dream—or so it seems.

You overslept and missed your chance to receive your first Pokémon. As your journey begins, strange events unfold, and you slowly realize that your nightmare was not fiction. The Shadow Plate, Giratina, and the forces manipulating reality itself are real—and your fate is tied directly to them.
