About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Blazed Glazed was created with the explicit goal of refining the Pokémon Glazed experience. After multiple playthroughs of the original hack, the developer identified numerous mechanical and balance issues—particularly an overly punishing early game and limited access to later-generation mechanics.
What began as a small project to introduce newer-generation moves evolved into a full-scale rebalance touching Pokémon stats, typings, movepools, trainer rosters, item behavior, and overall progression. Despite these changes, Blazed Glazed intentionally preserves the original plot, regions, tilesets, and tone of Pokémon Glazed, making it ideal for players who enjoyed Glazed but want a smoother and more modern gameplay experience.
Story Overview
The main storyline of Pokémon Blazed Glazed remains largely unchanged from the original Pokémon Glazed. Players still travel across Tunod, Johto, and Rankor, confronting Team Fusion and earning Gym Badges across multiple regions.
Dialogue edits are minimal, and story events follow the same structure as Glazed, with only rare map changes. The focus of this hack is not narrative expansion, but rather mechanical refinement and gameplay balance. As such, players familiar with Glazed will recognize nearly all story beats, while new players will experience a complete multi-region Pokémon adventure with escalating difficulty.
Key Features
- Modernized Move Pool Integration: New moves from Generations 4–6 have been added, significantly expanding strategic options.
- Comprehensive Pokémon Rebalancing: Many Pokémon have received stat adjustments, typing changes, expanded movepools, altered wild distributions, and in some cases, entirely new forms or implementations.
- Overhauled Trainer and Boss Rosters: Trainer teams, Gym Leaders, rivals, Elite Four members, and Champions have been reworked to improve pacing and increase late-game challenge while easing early-game frustration.
- Physical / Special Split: Uses Doesntknowhowtoplay’s Physical/Special split, ensuring modern damage calculations, correct Counter and Mirror Coat behavior, and proper weather interactions.
- Updated Type Mechanics: Steel no longer resists Dark and Ghost, matching Generation VI onward mechanics.
- Revised Evolution Methods: Certain Pokémon, such as Riolu, now evolve via level-up instead of friendship to reduce grind and ambiguity.
- Hidden Power Rework: Hidden Power always has a base power of 60, following Generation VI rules.
- Reusable Technical Machines: TMs are infinitely reusable, encouraging experimentation.
- Enhanced Move Tutors: Several Move Tutors have been changed, relocated, or repurposed, offering more useful and relevant moves throughout the game.
- Def-Eevee / Off-Eevee System: Eevee has been split into defensive and offensive variants, each evolving into different Eeveelutions depending on form and stone usage.
- Improved Grinding Options: Certain areas feature high-EXP Pokémon such as Delibird, providing efficient leveling spots.
- Expanded Legendary Events: Xerneas, Yveltal, and Zygarde are obtainable through scripted events in Ilex Forest.
Gameplay Changes & Mechanics
Goldenrod Gym has been converted into a Fairy-type Gym, with trainers and leader rosters updated accordingly. Team Fusion grunts in Tunod now use Fire-, Ice-, or Electric-type Pokémon alongside Fighting-types, reflecting their control over coveted TMs. Various NPCs have been repurposed into Move Tutors, including Mudkip NPCs that teach Ice Punch and Rock Slide.
Most fully evolved Pokémon now have exclusive level 1 moves accessible only through the Move Relearner, encouraging players to revisit this NPC frequently. Scarf Pikachu has been heavily buffed with improved stats and expanded event-based movepools, transforming it into a legitimate threat rather than a novelty.
Known Bugs & Issues
- Some NPCs may lack follow-up dialogue after giving Pokémon or items
- Certain battle animations (e.g., Drain Kiss) may cause lag on some emulators
- Some Pokédex entries are intentionally omitted
- Trainer intro animations may not always match trainer classes
- Rare cases of unintended move access due to tutor limitations
These issues do not prevent game completion and are generally minor.
