About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Solo Blue is a unique ROM hack of Pokémon Blue built around a single challenge: complete the entire game using only one Pokémon. While the journey through Kanto will feel familiar, every playthrough becomes a completely different experience thanks to a randomized starter system that determines your only partner for the entire adventure.
Instead of selecting one of the traditional starters, Professor Oak gives you a single random Pokémon at Level 5, chosen from the original 151 Pokémon, along with one additional hidden Pokémon that players can discover for themselves. Once your adventure begins, catching Pokémon, receiving gift Pokémon, and building a traditional team are no longer possible.
To make this challenge enjoyable rather than frustrating, the hack introduces numerous quality-of-life improvements, useful key items that replace HMs, faster gameplay, expanded inventory space, and several balance changes that help every Pokémon have a chance at completing the game. Version 1.1 also fixes the launch bugs found in the original release and adds an additional quality-of-life item.
Story Overview
Most players already know the classic story of Pokémon Blue: a young Trainer leaves home, receives a starter Pokémon from Professor Oak, collects Gym Badges, defeats Team Rocket, and challenges the Pokémon League.
But in Pokémon Solo Blue, something has gone terribly wrong.
An unexplained anomaly—whether caused by a curse, a glitch in reality, or something beyond understanding—has trapped the protagonist inside an endless loop. Every journey begins exactly the same. The world resets. The Gym Leaders return. Your rival starts over. Everything appears unchanged...
Everything except your Pokémon.
Each new loop gives you one random Pokémon to accompany you through the entire adventure. Every attempt becomes a completely different challenge, forcing you to adapt to your new companion and discover whether you can finally overcome the anomaly—or remain trapped in Kanto forever.

- True Solo Challenge: Your starter is your only permanent partner. Poké Balls, catching wild Pokémon, and gift Pokémon have all been disabled.
- Limited Evolutions: Most Pokémon cannot evolve, with the exception of Magikarp, Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, and Kakuna.

- Automatic Bag Sorting: Press the Start button inside your Bag to instantly organize your inventory.
- Expanded Bag Capacity: Inventory space has been increased from 20 items to 50 items.
- Starter Welcome Kit: Begin the game with Rare Candies and two exclusive key items designed specifically for solo play.
- PokéFilter: Toggle wild Pokémon encounters on or off whenever you choose.
- Peace Treaty: Prevents ordinary Trainers from automatically challenging you unless you speak to them first, allowing players to skip optional battles if desired.
- Heal Machine: Instantly heals your Pokémon almost anywhere, although it cannot be used during the Elite Four challenge.
- LED Sparkler: Replaces Flash by permanently illuminating dark caves without requiring HM05.
- Mower: Replaces Cut, allowing bushes to be cleared through a reusable key item.
- Bill's Plane: Replaces Fly, allowing fast travel between previously visited towns and cities.
- Bill's Ship: Replaces Surf through a reusable key item rather than an HM.
- Macho Glove: Replaces Strength, allowing boulders to be moved without teaching HM moves.
- Grinding Improvements: Rare Candies help reduce repetitive level grinding throughout the adventure.
- New Struggle TM: TM36 now teaches Struggle, allowing Pokémon that normally lack early offensive moves to participate in battles more effectively.
- Updated Victory Road: Victory Road has been redesigned so it no longer requires Strength to complete.
- Original Blaine Sprite: Blaine's appearance has been restored to his original Red and Green design as a tribute to the early games and anime.

Known Bugs & Issues
Version 1.1 fixes the major issues present in Version 1.0, including:
- MissingNo. and Charizard 'M incorrectly appearing as possible starter Pokémon.
- Safari Zone Pokémon being catchable despite catching being disabled.
Additional improvements in Version 1.1 include:
- Added the Macho Glove key item.
- Struggle is now a ???-type move, allowing it to hit Ghost-type Pokémon.
According to the developer, no new glitches are currently known beyond those already present in the original Pokémon Blue.
