About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Emerald Rule-ette is a challenge-focused Pokémon Emerald ROM hack created by wiz1989. While the original Emerald story remains intact, the hack introduces a unique gameplay system that dramatically changes how battles are approached.

The defining feature is the Battle Rule System, where random rules are assigned to trainer battles. Some rules directly alter battle mechanics, while others remain hidden and punish certain player actions. Violating a rule results in penalties, usually through HP reduction, forcing players to adapt their strategies on the fly.

The project was originally designed with Nuzlocke players in mind, but it can also be enjoyed outside of Nuzlocke mode. To support challenge-oriented gameplay, the hack includes a large number of quality-of-life features that remove grinding and unnecessary downtime while preserving strategic decision-making.

In addition to the randomized rule system, the game includes difficulty settings, level caps, level scaling, built-in Nuzlocke support, modern conveniences, and numerous gameplay enhancements.
