About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Fire Red Enhanced is a beginner-developed ROM hack that focuses on reworking FireRed into a more dynamic and slightly easier alternative to well-known difficulty hacks like Renegade Platinum.
Given its Pre-Alpha status, the hack is currently more of a foundation than a complete experience. Only a handful of encounters and trainer battles have been modified so far, but the intention is clear: introduce modern mechanics and shake up gameplay through type changes, updated teams, and new battle formats like double battles.
The creator has also begun experimenting with unique ideas, such as unexpected trainer battles (including a hidden or novelty fight near the Pokémon League). However, much of the game still mirrors vanilla FireRed, and players should expect an incomplete but evolving experience.
Key Features
- Modern Battle Mechanics: Features the inclusion of Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, and Gigantamax, bringing mechanics from later generations into the FireRed engine, though implementation may be incomplete.
- Fairy Type Integration: Introduces the Fairy type into the game, altering type matchups and adding a modern layer to battle strategy.
- Type Changes: Certain Pokémon have been retyped (for example, Blastoise becoming Steel-type), creating new strategies and matchup dynamics.
- Double Battles: Adds double battle encounters, increasing battle variety and requiring more strategic team planning.
- Gym Leader Team Changes: Most Gym Leaders have updated teams (with exceptions like Erika and Lt. Surge), offering a fresh take on familiar battles.
- Experimental Difficulty Design: Inspired by difficulty hacks but designed to be more accessible, aiming for a balanced challenge rather than punishing gameplay.
- Day/Night Cycle: Introduces a time-based system that may affect encounters or atmosphere, though current implementation details are limited.
- Early Encounter Adjustments: A small number of wild Pokémon spawns have been modified to diversify early gameplay.
- Custom Battle Encounters: Includes unique or unexpected battles, such as a special fight near the Pokémon League featuring a disguised character.
Known Bugs & Issues
