About This ROM Hack

Yellow-ified LeafGreen is a small personal project — nothing too ambitious, just a tweaked version of LeafGreen that pulls some inspiration from Yellow while keeping everything else mostly untouched.

The changes are subtle: rival adjustments, encounter tweaks, reusable tutors, cheaper items, and a bit more resource accessibility. It's not trying to reinvent anything, just make the game a little more enjoyable to play through.

Worth noting, though — this is an unfinished demo. Content only goes up to around Cerulean City; there are text errors here and there, and some areas are still incomplete. It's a work in progress, so go in with that in mind.

Key Features

  • Yellow-Inspired Gameplay Tweaks: Light inspiration from Pokémon Yellow, including rival changes and encounter design philosophy.
  • Minimal Changes Philosophy: Keeps the core LeafGreen experience intact with only small adjustments for replayability.
  • Updated Rival Team: Rival now uses Pichu or Eevee depending on your starter choice.
  • Trainer Team Improvements: Trainers may have evolved Pokémon where appropriate and include more variety, including Johto and Hoenn Pokémon.
  • Tougher Boss Battles: Key fights are made more challenging compared to standard LeafGreen.
  • New Trainer Type – Rocket Trio: Adds a trainer battle inspired by Jessie and James-style encounters.
  • Reworked Encounter Tables: Kanto features only Kanto Pokémon, while Sevii Islands introduce Johto Pokémon. All Pokémon are obtainable within the game.
  • In-Game Encounter Info: Route signs indicate which Pokémon can be found in each area.
  • High Catch Rate for Starters & Babies: These Pokémon are much easier to catch (255 catch rate).
  • Reusable Move Tutors: Tutors can be used multiple times without restriction.
  • TMs Available in Shops: TMs can be purchased in marts, making moves more accessible.
  • Cheaper Items: Poké Balls and other items are significantly more affordable.
  • Rare Candies & Elixirs in Shops: Grinding and resource management are simplified.
  • Badge Boosts Disabled: Removes Gen 3 badge stat boosts for a more balanced experience.
  • Double Battles Included: Adds more variety to trainer encounters.
