About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Wings of Chaos is a story-heavy Emerald ROM hack that focuses on delivering a more immersive and modern Pokémon experience. Instead of relying only on difficulty or feature overload, it leans into worldbuilding, exploration, and narrative mystery.

Set in the Marya Isles, the game introduces a completely original region with custom maps, events, and mechanics. The developers aim to create something that feels closer to a full fan-made Pokémon game rather than a simple modification.

Because this is the team’s first major project, some areas may feel experimental or unfinished, especially in earlier alpha builds. Still, the ambition and direction are very clear: a lore-rich, exploration-focused adventure with modern gameplay systems.

Story Overview

Thousands of years ago, a great calamity befell upon the isles of Marya.

Amidst a torrential rainstorm, the great volcano of Mount Kaballa erupted violently under a moonless sky. From the smoke emerged a monstrous winged creature, radiating corruption and decay. Its presence transformed the rain into a toxic purple storm, spreading a thick mist that poisoned the land and twisted Pokémon into savage, heartless beings.

The region’s three sacred guardians rose to stop the threat—but they were no match for its overwhelming power. One by one, they fell under its control, becoming instruments of destruction instead of protectors.

As chaos consumed the isles, hope seemed lost.

Then, from the depths of the ocean, a radiant silver dragon emerged.

With a single roar and a powerful gust of wind, it cleared the skies, freeing the guardians from corruption. Together, they defeated the monstrous entity and restored balance to the region. Afterward, the dragon vanished into the sea, leaving behind a promise to return if disaster ever struck again.

That dragon came to be known as Lugia, the Savior of Marya.

In the present day, you arrive in the Marya region as a young trainer from a distant land. Invited by Professor Sheldon Palm, you begin your journey to assist in field research across the islands.

At the same time, the region is preparing for the Silverwing Festival, a major event celebrating Lugia’s legacy.

Your journey takes you across the islands of Oranna, Lumine, and Minerva, where you challenge gym leaders, explore diverse environments, and complete your Pokédex.

But as you travel, something begins to feel… off.

You start noticing things others don’t. Strange occurrences. Hidden truths. A darkness beneath the surface.

And soon, it becomes clear:

You may be the only one who can uncover what’s really happening in Marya.
