About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Mirror Gold takes HeartGold and rebuilds it around one core idea: every battle should actually make you think.
It's a difficulty and modernization hack, but it goes a lot deeper than most. This isn't just tweaked trainer levels and a few added Pokémon — the whole system gets redesigned, from mechanics and balance to how progression feels across the entire game.
The biggest shift is that all trainer battles are converted to Double Battles. That alone changes how you approach everything. Combined with rebalanced stats, moves, types, and abilities, and a roster that pulls from Generations 1 through 9, the game starts feeling a lot closer to competitive play than anything the original HeartGold was built for.
Mega Evolution is in. Grinding is largely removed through aggressive QoL changes. Visible IVs and EVs, a portable PC, optional hardcore modes — it's the kind of feature list you'd expect from a full fangame, not a ROM hack.
Worth noting that it's still in beta, so some areas are unfinished, and things are likely to change. But even in its current state, it's clearly built for players who want a Pokémon game that pushes back.
