About This ROM Hack
Pokémon HeartGold: Link Cable Mod is a small but genuinely useful hack that fixes one of the most frustrating parts of classic Pokémon — evolutions that require trading with another player.
It doesn't touch the story, the region, or anything that makes HeartGold what it is. Everything stays the same, just with one major annoyance removed.
The main addition is the Linking Cord, an item borrowed from more recent Pokémon games that lets trade-evolution Pokémon evolve on their own. No second console, no second copy, no friend needed. Pokémon that were basically locked out of a solo playthrough are now just... obtainable.
There are also a few evolution tweaks tied to environmental mechanics — things like Moss Rock and Ice Rock evolutions — which have been adjusted to actually work within HeartGold's limitations.
That's really it. It's not trying to overhaul anything. It just removes the friction that made completing the game solo more of a hassle than it needed to be.
