About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Glitter Gold: Trashlocke is a hardcore difficulty hack of HeartGold, but it takes a different approach to challenge than most. Instead of buffing enemy trainers, it goes after your resources.
Made by elysssium, it's built around the Trashlocke philosophy — you're working with weak or heavily limited Pokémon options, healing items are scarce, and the game regularly throws back-to-back battles and gauntlets at you with little room to recover in between. The vanilla trainer teams stay mostly intact. The difficulty comes from stripping down what you have to work with and forcing you to make smarter decisions with less.
It's designed with Nuzlocke runs in mind, where the resource pressure and weak Pokémon pool hit hardest. That said, it's still playable as a casual run if you just want something that fights back a little more than the original.
Key Features
- Trashlocke Difficulty: Weak Pokémon, limited healing, and strict resource management.
- Gauntlet System: Routes and dungeons lock you in until all trainers are defeated.
- Vanilla Trainer Teams: Enemies remain unchanged—difficulty comes from your limitations.
- Optional Challenges & Karma System: Earn rewards, achievements, and altered dialogue.
- New Routing: Reworked progression using Johto’s level curve effectively.
- Expanded Encounter Pool: Carefully designed wild Pokémon variety (3–5 per route).
- Evolution Restrictions: Many evolutions delayed or removed (e.g., no Milotic, limited final forms).
- Mandatory Kanto: Includes 3 major gauntlets before Victory Road.
- Overworld Changes: New layouts, added grass, ledges, and environmental hazards.
- Weather Effects: Includes permanent weather and special conditions like Trick Room zones.
- Removed EVs: Simplifies stat optimization but increases difficulty balance.
- Nerfed Player Tools: Setup moves (e.g., Nasty Plot) have reduced PP; HMs weakened (e.g., Surf = 40 BP); Opponents retain full power versions
- New & Rebalanced TMs: Includes niche and strategic moves like Spite, Aqua Ring, Zap Cannon.
- Unique Items: Big Root, Wise Glasses, Metronome, etc., scattered for creative strategies.
Quality of Life Features
- Rare Candies, Repels, Heart Scales: Sold for 1 Pokédollar
- Cheap Poké Balls: Easy access to all types
- Hidden Power Checker: Located at Lake of Rage
- League Healing NPC: Limited recovery help before major fights
- Lower Encounter Rates: Less grinding frustration
- Move Reminder/Deleter: Available after Chuck
Known Bugs & Issues
- Previously: Route 32 gate freeze bug (fixed in later patch)
- Minor bugs may still exist due to complexity
- Always save before important transitions as a precaution
