About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Forbidden Memories is a highly unique ROM hack that transforms Pokémon Ruby into a Yu-Gi-Oh!-style card RPG. Instead of catching Pokémon, players collect and battle using cards inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh!
This hack is not just a modification—it’s a full conversion of Pokémon gameplay into a card-based system. Trainers are replaced by duelists, and Pokémon are replaced with collectible cards.
Despite being labeled as “complete,” the project is still evolving, with some graphical inconsistencies and leftover Pokémon elements due to engine limitations. However, the core experience—card collecting, dueling, and progressing through a full story—is fully playable.
It’s a crossover that blends two classic franchises into one experimental but engaging experience.
Story Overview
The story takes place in an alternate version of the Hoenn region where traditional Pokémon training no longer exists.
Instead, duelists travel the region collecting powerful cards and battling others in strategic duels. Familiar progression elements remain, such as facing strong opponents and advancing through increasingly difficult challenges.
Legendary encounters are reimagined through iconic Yu-Gi-Oh! entities, with the Egyptian Gods replacing Pokémon legendaries and serving as major milestones in the adventure.
