About This ROM Hack
Pokémon – DX Violet is a quality-of-life enhancement of the original Pokémon Red, designed to improve the overall experience without dramatically changing the core gameplay.
Built on top of the Pokémon Red Full Color Hack, this version keeps the nostalgic Gen 1 structure intact while fixing mechanics, improving balance, and removing outdated limitations like trade requirements.
The goal isn’t to reinvent Kanto — it’s to refine it.
Key Features
All 151 Pokémon Obtainable: No version exclusives or trade requirements. Every Pokémon can be caught in a single playthrough.
Trade Evolutions Reworked: Pokémon that normally evolve by trade now evolve via leveling up.
Important TMs Purchasable: Key TMs are available for purchase in Celadon City, reducing missable frustration.
Moonstones Available for Sale: No more limited Moonstone headaches.
Charizard Can Learn Fly: Finally aligns with later generations and player expectations.
Cut & Flash Rebalanced: These HM moves have been improved to be viable in battle instead of feeling like wasted move slots.
Bug-Type vs. Poison Fix: Poison is no longer weak to Bug, matching later generation mechanics and improving balance.
Focus Energy Bug Fixed (Reworked): Instead of being broken like in the original Gen 1 (where it lowered crit rate), it now raises Attack by one stage.
Level-Up Improvements:
- Moltres learns Flamethrower naturally.
- Scyther learns Wing Attack naturally.
New Title Screen: Updated presentation polish.
OG Graphics Version Included: A special version with all gameplay improvements but using the original Pokémon Red sprites instead of the full-color upgrade.
