About This ROM Hack
Pokémon: Spirits of the Storm is a fully original, bite-sized Pokémon ROM hack built on Pokémon Emerald, designed as a doubles-only battle experience with a strong narrative focus. Developed by a team with extensive experience in competitive doubles hacks, the game blends investigative storytelling, high-information battle mechanics, and tight encounter design into a compact adventure intended to be completed in a single playthrough.
The hack was released on September 22, 2025, won TARC 2, and is designed to feel polished, deliberate, and replayable through its multiple difficulty modes.
Estimated playtime ranges from 3 to 8 hours, depending on difficulty and playstyle.
Story Overview
While conducting a routine inspection in the bustling coastal port city of Porta Bella, Looker and Anabel find themselves drawn into a growing mystery surrounding the city and the forest that borders it. Strange events hint at deeper secrets, and something long dormant may soon awaken.
As the investigation unfolds, Looker discovers a strange new ability: he can predict his opponents’ actions before they happen. Using this power, along with careful planning and cooperation with the citizens of Porta Bella, Looker must resolve local conflicts, uncover the truth behind the region’s unrest, and prevent a looming disaster.
Rather than capturing Pokémon traditionally, Looker builds his team by helping townsfolk, resolving their problems, and earning allies along the way. The story unfolds through character interactions, environmental storytelling, and challenging double battles that test foresight and tactical mastery.

- Auto-Healing After Battles: Teams are fully healed after each fight to emphasize tactical execution over resource management.
- Custom Team Building: Pokémon are obtained through story progression and helping NPCs, not wild encounters.
- Multiple Difficulty Modes: Three difficulty modes with custom-designed enemy teams allow tailored challenge levels.
