Pokémon Perfect Leaf Green is an improvement-focused ROM hack designed to deliver the most complete and polished version of the original LeafGreen experience, while staying faithful to the classic story and regional structure. Rather than reinventing the game, this hack carefully enhances balance, mechanics, encounters, and quality-of-life systems to feel closer to modern Pokémon standards—without introducing Hoenn Pokémon or altering the core narrative.
The project aims to create a definitive Kanto + Johto experience, making all Pokémon obtainable without trading, restoring cut or event-based content, and fixing long-standing bugs from the original game engine.
Key Features
- Complete Kanto & Johto Pokédex: All 251 Pokémon from Generations 1 and 2 are obtainable without trading, with no Hoenn Pokémon included.
- Physical / Special Split: Moves are split by damage category rather than type. A vanilla version without this feature is also available.
- Restored & Expanded Events: All Nintendo-distributed and legendary events are fully playable, including Mew, Celebi, and the legendary beasts.
- Improved Trainer AI & Difficulty Adjustments: Gym Leaders, rivals, the Elite Four, and key trainers feature smarter AI, improved teams, and better item usage.
- Removed National Dex Restrictions: Johto evolutions such as Espeon, Umbreon, and Crobat can be obtained during the main story.
- Reusable TMs & Unlimited Move Tutors: TMs can be used infinitely, and Move Tutors can teach moves an unlimited number of times.
- Modern Quality-of-Life Enhancements: Running Shoes from the start, indoor running, reusable Repels, fast default text speed, and improved UI feedback.
- Bug Fixes & Engine Improvements: Fixes numerous original game bugs, including roaming Pokémon issues, Pokédex errors, Nugget Bridge glitches, and graphical anomalies.
Gameplay Changes
Trainer battles are more engaging, levels are increased across the board, and Gym Leaders more closely resemble their anime, Gen 1, and Let’s Go counterparts. Wild Pokémon encounters have been adjusted, held items updated, and evolution methods streamlined through the Bill Teleport Machine, eliminating the need for external trading.
Sevii Islands are now post-game exclusive, creating a more focused main story progression and a richer endgame experience.
