About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Crystal Inheritance is a story-driven overhaul of Crystal built on top of Polished Crystal, so it comes with a solid mechanical foundation right out of the gate — Physical/Special split, Fairy typing, and a bunch of quality-of-life stuff already in place.
The central hook is time travel. You're moving between two versions of Johto — a historic past and a shifting modern era — and the region itself changes depending on when you are. The story leans into player choice and branching paths rather than a straight linear run.
The Pokédex pulls from Sinnoh and Hisui alongside a handful of Fakémon, and there's a custom apricorn crafting system that lets you make unique Poké Balls and interact with environmental puzzles tied to the time travel mechanic. It's got a lot of moving parts for a hack still in early development.
Worth being upfront about where it's at, though — this is an alpha demo. It ends after the first Gym badge, runs around 1–2 hours, and while most systems are in, they're not fully polished yet. The first quarter of the content is the most complete; anything beyond that gets progressively rougher. It's clearly early, but the ambition behind it is hard to miss.
Story Overview
When Ilex Forest falls under threat, Celebi reaches out across time for someone capable of saving Johto’s future.
You are chosen to travel between eras, witnessing two vastly different versions of the region.
In historic Johto, a power-hungry ruler known as Emperor Mejimi, along with his generals Bobesh, Kensey, and Adrinna, exploits a growing crisis to tighten control over the region.
In modern Johto, Gym Leaders struggle to adapt to a rapidly changing world, questioning their roles and responsibilities as the region evolves.
As you move between past and present, your actions begin to influence the outcome of events. The story is not fixed—your choices matter, and multiple paths can unfold.
Nothing is inevitable. The future of Johto depends on what you choose to change.
