About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Duality is a narrative-focused GBA ROM hack set in the original Lumina region, blending classic Pokémon gameplay with modern mechanics. The hack is distinguished by its ambitious dual-story system, allowing players to experience two entirely different campaigns—Hero Story and Dark Story—within the same game.
This hack is notable for combining an original storyline, deep lore, expansive exploration, and modern gameplay features. It incorporates Pokémon from Generations 1 through 9 and introduces era- and choice-based consequences that shape the game world depending on player decisions.
Story Overview
Long before the rise of cities and the Pokémon League, unstable forces dominated the world. Giratina, sovereign of the Distorted World, attempted to impose chaos on the physical plane, corrupting Pokémon and humans alike.
To stop Giratina, Arceus, the Creator, battled him and sealed his essence in seven Shadow Orbs, scattered across the Lumina region. Over millennia, this epic confrontation became a myth, preserved by monks in ancient ruins.
In the present, Thorne, leader of Team Obsidian, uncovers forbidden manuscripts and seeks the Shadow Orbs, believing Giratina is the true god and that Arceus enforced a false order.
Two Stories, Two Paths
Hero Story: A classical Pokémon adventure where the protagonist protects the region, stops the villainous Team Obsidian, safeguards legendary Pokémon, and restores balance.
Dark Story: An alternate route where the player pursues their own ambitions, potentially aiding the villainous team and conquering the region under their own ideals. This path explores moral choices and shows the story from a darker perspective.
