About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Uncanny is a unique FireRed ROM hack created by retronc. It replaces every official Pokémon with what are called “Non-Pokémon.” These creatures come from fan interpretations, early concept-like designs, or unofficial Pokémon-style creations. They resemble the look of the series but do not belong to the official Pokédex.

The game includes a custom Pokédex featuring 100 original Non-Pokémon designs. All standard Pokémon have been completely removed. Despite this unusual concept, the hack follows a mostly traditional Pokémon gameplay structure. Players can explore Kanto, catch creatures, and battle trainers just like in the original FireRed.

To improve the experience, the hack includes updates that make gameplay smoother, move adjustments, Fairy-type implementation, and other gameplay tweaks using the CFRU framework. The adventure is designed to be fairly short and easy to engage with, typically lasting around four to eight hours.

Story Overview

While the map and story are primarily unchanged, Pokémon Uncanny adds new narrative depth through the introduction of a new Champion and boss battles that feature the Non-Pokemon creatures. Players will encounter the Non-Pokemon in various locations across Kanto and explore additional twists to familiar areas. The story is driven by the gameplay changes, such as the introduction of the Non-Pokemon and their evolving relationships with the protagonist.
