About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Rubbish Red is a FireRed hack with one simple premise: every wild encounter is worse. Not unplayable, just... worse than you'd want.
The game itself stays pretty close to vanilla FireRed — trainer battles, progression, all of that is left alone. What changed is the encounter tables. Every one of them has been redone to push you toward the Pokémon you'd normally skip right past.
It's built with Nuzlockes in mind, but honestly, it works for anyone who's burned through FireRed enough times and wants the experience to feel a little more painful again.
Story Overview
Key Features
- Overhauled Encounters: All wild Pokémon encounters are modified to provide a sub-optimal, challenging experience.
- Static Encounters Updated: Almost every static encounter has been replaced with a new Pokémon.
- Early Game Changes: Common early-game Pokémon (like Pidgey and Rattata) appear later for increased challenge.
- Water Encounters Redesigned: Surfing encounters are identical to fishing encounters; unique encounters appear only in water-only routes.
- Running Shoes Activated: You start with running shoes available outside of buildings.
- Roadblock Adjustment: The NPC blocking the road to Mt. Moon has been relocated to the entrance and now provides an Exp. Share.
- Game Corner Disabled: Access to most of the best moves is limited to enhance challenge.
- Fossil Revival Removed: Some fossils are re-added as random encounters instead.
- Regional & National Dex: Both are fully activated for completionists.
- Nuzlocke-Friendly Design: The game balances challenge for permadeath-style playthroughs.
Known Bugs & Issues
- No significant bugs reported; designed to be stable on Fire Red 1.1 ROM.
- Some minor early-game encounter adjustments may feel unintuitive but are intended for challenge.
