Pokémon Heart & Soul is a faithful, modernized Johto region remake for the GBA. Inspired by the GSC and HGSS games, it blends Gen 2 and Gen 4 mechanics with modern quality-of-life improvements from the Gen 3 era. The hack is fully open-source, rigorously playtested, and aims to serve as a base for future Johto ROM hack projects.
Heart & Soul provides a traditional Pokémon experience, retaining the main-series feel while introducing overworld Pokémon, dynamic palettes, optional toggles, and expanded postgame content.
Story Overview
Play as a trainer exploring Johto after the events of the original Gold, Silver, and Crystal games. The Johto story is fully recreated with additional enhancements, and players can access Kanto as a postgame region. Key story elements include:
