About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Emerald Blitz is a decomp-based Pokémon Emerald hack designed specifically for competitive, fast-paced draft racing. Unlike traditional Pokémon experiences, Emerald Blitz strips away nearly all downtime, filler content, and story interruptions to create a tightly optimized run that can be completed in approximately two hours from the first Gym to the Elite Four Champion.

The hack focuses on speed, strategy, and meaningful decision-making. Every system—from encounters to shops, trainers, and progression—has been reworked to ensure that every action matters, making Emerald Blitz ideal for races, challenges, and repeat playthroughs.

Story Overview

Emerald Blitz intentionally minimizes narrative content. Most story events involving Team Aqua, Team Magma, Steven, Wally, and Scott have been removed entirely. The Hoenn region remains intact geographically, but the focus is shifted away from plot and toward pure gameplay efficiency and competitive progression.

The result is a streamlined Hoenn journey built around Gym battles, boss fights, and strategic team planning rather than traditional storytelling.

Key Features

  • Roguelike Randomization: Each run offers a fresh experience through randomized elements designed for replayability.
  • Randomized Gyms: Entering a Gym warps the player to a random one of Hoenn’s eight Gyms, with leader teams scaled to player strength.
  • Elite Eight: Battle Frontier Brains replace and join the Elite Four for a varied endgame challenge lineup.
  • Pokémon Catalog: A notebook in the player’s room allows instant selection from the full drafted Pokémon pool.
  • Permanent Repel: The Cleanse Tag acts as a toggleable permanent repel.
  • Portable PC: A PC stored in the Bag allows Pokémon management almost anywhere.
  • Med Kit: A portable Pokémon Center key item that activates automatically upon entering the Elite Four.
  • Visible IVs: Pokémon IVs can be viewed directly from the status screen.
  • Level Cap Candy: Instantly levels Pokémon to evolution, move-learning thresholds, or the current level cap.
  • Flygon Bike: Flygon replaces the bike, enabling terrain traversal, ledge hopping, and Fly functionality.
  • Plot Removal: All major story events are removed to maintain constant forward momentum.
  • Polite Trainers: Trainers no longer initiate battles automatically but can still be challenged manually.
  • Nuzlocke Ruleset: No item usage in battle and enforced level caps tied to upcoming boss fights.
  • Stat Boost Cap: Stat boosts cannot exceed +1, preventing setup sweeps and encouraging creative strategies.
  • Updated Boss Teams: Gym Leaders and bosses use stronger, more diverse teams including Alolan, Hisuian, and Galarian Pokémon.
  • New Boss Battles: Steven Stone serves as Champion with Mega Metagross, Wallace joins Juan in a double battle, and Viola appears as a Gym leader.
  • Perfect IV Trainers: Enemy trainers use Pokémon with flawless 31 IVs.
  • Fixed Economy: Money is limited, items cannot be sold, and every purchase carries opportunity cost.
  • Slateport Market: Evolution stones, Mega Stones, power TMs, and utility items are sold in one centralized location.
  • Purchasable Berries: Common berries can be bought directly from the flower shop.
  • Mega Evolution: Mega Evolution is implemented with a unique three-turn limitation system.
  • Fairy Type: Fairy typing is added with updated typings and learnsets up to Generation VII standards.
  • Generation IX Pokémon: The draft pool includes Pokémon and items up through Legends ZA.
  • Physical/Special Split: Damage calculation follows the Generation IV physical/special split.
  • Expanded TM Pool: Modern TMs such as Dazzling Gleam, Hone Claws, Trick Room, and X-Scissor are included.
  • Milk Drink Tool: A one-time overworld level-up tool that bypasses the level cap.
  • Forecast Rework: Castform sets weather based on its first listed move.
  • Last Respects Rework: Power scales based on total Pokémon deaths across the run.
  • Seed Sower Ability: Arboliva automatically sets Leech Seed on contact.
  • Undead Corsola: Corsola revives as Galarian Corsola after battle if it faints.
  • Applin Evolution Paths: Applin’s evolution depends on which Gym is reached first.
  • Sketch Overhaul: Smeargle can use Sketch from the party menu to learn powerful randomized moves.
