About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Emerald Azure is a heavily expanded and difficulty-focused ROM hack of Pokémon Emerald that blends modern mechanics, competitive-style battles, and a completely original storyline into one cohesive experience. Built using pokeemerald-expansion and heavily inspired by the Radical Red dex system, the hack rebalances nearly every aspect of gameplay, including stats, movepools, abilities, and battle flow.

The game introduces a huge amount of custom content, including 150+ variant Pokémon forms, 9 new Eeveelutions, and over 26 custom Mega Evolutions, all supported by new signature moves and abilities. It also incorporates modern features like Tera mechanics, field effects, and advanced AI behavior, making battles feel closer to competitive play than standard Emerald.

A major focus of the hack is strategic difficulty that remains fair. Players are given powerful tools like EV/IV control from anywhere, infinite rare candy systems, and visible stat tracking, but are expected to fully use them due to the smart AI and enforced level caps. Version 0.5 (May Update) continues to expand the experience with new story content, locations, systems, and extensive balancing changes.

Story Overview

Heaven hums in desolate white,
Darkness extinguishes light.
Voices pray as one,
"Azure has begun."

Pokémon Emerald Azure features every major evil organization from across the Pokémon universe, each with their own goals, alliances, and hidden motives. Some groups cooperate, others manipulate from the shadows, and many will clash both with each other and with the player.

The story builds toward a larger overarching conflict, where shifting alliances and escalating tensions shape the world around you. As you progress, you’ll encounter multiple factions, recurring characters, and interconnected plotlines, all gradually tying into a bigger narrative direction.

The story is still actively in development, currently playable up to around Gym 9, but already offers a substantial amount of content with more being added in each update.
