About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Emerald Azure is a large-scale Pokémon Emerald ROM hack that introduces a brand new story, new locations, custom mechanics, and a significantly higher difficulty level. The game uses the Radical Red Pokédex as a foundation, meaning many Pokémon include the same stat adjustments, abilities, and movepool changes found in that well-known difficulty hack.
Beyond that foundation, Emerald Azure expands the formula with dozens of original additions. The hack currently includes 116 custom variant Pokémon forms, 9 entirely new Eeveelutions, and 26 new Mega Evolutions. These new forms often come with their own signature abilities and moves.
The project also adds many modern features such as level caps, scaling enemies, advanced trainer AI, quests, field effects, and numerous quality-of-life mechanics. The experience is designed to challenge players while still remaining fair, especially for those familiar with competitive Pokémon mechanics.
The ROM hack is still in development. At the moment, the playable story content extends to the sixth gym area, and new content is added regularly through updates.
Story Overview
Heaven hums in desolate white,
Darkness extinguishes light.
Voices pray as one,
“Azure has begun.”
Emerald Azure’s story brings together nearly every villainous organization from across the Pokémon universe. Rather than focusing on a single antagonist team, the game introduces multiple factions, each pursuing their own goals and ambitions.
Some organizations temporarily cooperate with one another, forming alliances when it benefits them. Others directly oppose one another, creating conflicts that the player becomes entangled in throughout their journey. Many of these partnerships are fragile or deceptive, hiding deeper motives behind them.
As the story unfolds, these organizations clash both with the player and with each other. The conflicts slowly build toward a larger overarching narrative centered around the mysterious “Azure” event hinted at early in the story.

Known Bugs & Issues
- The story is currently incomplete and only playable through early-to-mid game content (around the sixth gym area).
- Some features may occasionally be lost or redesigned during major updates due to development changes.
- Certain custom systems (like complex AI calculations) may introduce slight delays between turns during battles.
- Sprite palette limitations may cause color glitches if too many variant Pokémon are stored together in PC boxes.
- As an actively developed ROM hack, minor bugs and balance issues may appear in newer updates.
- Full documentation and a wiki are still in development, with the most detailed information currently available through the Discord server.
